I've done this but with a much cheaper, disassembly required, super soaker pump.

Hardest part is getting paint, either boil paintballs (man!) or find some water soluble childrens craft paint. I'm testing some stuff from wallmart right now.

Thats a really cool idea. Plus it wouldn't really cost a lot of money to make if you already have a compressor.
