Default So it turns out I probably have Diabetes...

Well, long story short, not tl;dr, my blood sugar level was 155 (normal is 120) so I may have diabetes. But stronger evidence that says I pretty much have Diabetes (Type 2) is my foot has been numb all day. My whole damned foot.

So that's the short story.

Long-er story is, I woke up with a numb foot today, and it stayed numb for some 4 hours, I went to sleep, woke up again, it being numb. Asked my dad if he ever his foot ever goes numb for extended periods of time (he has Type 2 Diabetes too), so he pricked my finger and took my blood sugar level, it was 155. He thought I was diabetic last year too, as it was borderline, 122. So this sucks. And no, he took my blood 7 hours after I had eaten (30 minutes ago or so). I feel like crap.

So now I have to get back to working out/biking, and my brother says I should use this as an excuse to play more paintball (since it's one of the sports that I really enjoy), but I doubt he'll take it. So I know all the stuff to take down points to normal, but this is really going to hurt me, because I have to change the way I eat, which is mostly carbohydrates. I was stupid enough to have such a crappy diet... But a lot of the other food there is to eat makes me want to throw up (literally, I gag by the taste of it). And no, I'm not a big guy, I'm 130-135 and I'm 5'6"-5'7", it's just I used to have really high metabolic rate, so I was able to eat a lot of carbs and not gain a lot of weight, etc.

Well, to look on the brightside, the pills I'm supposed to take allow me to grow muscles easier (no, not steroids), as I have too much blood sugar, they'll allow the muscles to absorb easier, so if I work out more, that's a plus.

Well, I thought I'd let you all know.

RAWR. This sucks.

That really does suck. On the bright side you CAN use the paintball excuse and that is awesome. Good luck with the new diet and I hope you can beat it with out use of shots.

It's not as bad as it might seem right now. And you are living in a great technological time where high tech blood testers are available, better understanding of meds and their interactions in the body, etc. 20 years ago you'd be peeing across keto-diastix and spending top dollar for a bulky blood tester that wasn't very accurate; then probably taking the wrong dose of insulin. If you were on the oral dose you'd be experiencing more side effects than the actual disease has. Yep, todays better.
Anyway I've gotten on a tangent, good luck and best wishes. Oh yeah, seek out a peer or support group. It may sound dorky, but you'll want to talk to people like you about stuff- instead of doctors.

Sorry to hear that man. Diabetes, while manageable, still sucks. My whole family has diabetes, except me (for now). I test myself all the time. If you need any advise or support hit me up!

what are you talking about sandman ?? We are the support group

Sorry to hear about this leed. Type 2 diabetes isn't as bad as it seems. The only thing you really have to do is eat healthier, and take some meds. You'll still be like a normal person ...

My grampa has type 2 diabetes, and i might actually get it. (Have you ever heard about that thing where diabetes skips a generation ??) Well, seeing that your korean, you should be eating korean food For the most part Korean food mainly consists of vegetables. Only bad part is that rice has a lot of carbs ...

Goodluck though !!! i hope for the best of you dude.

What I meant was that it's helpful to discuss it with other people who have gone thru or are going thru the same thing. Often, you can communicate questions or thoughts to people other than doctors more easily. And yes, we are a support group here; it's healthy to have several venues available though. Remember, it's a manageable disease not a death sentence, so try to keep a positive outlook. I have diabetes in my family as well, again- best wishes to you.
