Spammers......I just don't get it.......

yea, i used to get like 10 a day to my personal email. I just keep deleting them and unsubscribing from the ones that give you that option. now, i'm down to no more than 1 or 2 a day. It was real pain before but just keep putting in the effort to try and stop them and hopefully they will go down.

I dont have time to sit there and unsubscribe. I just use my junk mail filter and it automatically moves them to the junk folder. If I knew it wouldn't catch e-mails I might need, I'd get it to automatically delete them..but sometimes it filters good emails.

Spammers are no different than the late night infomercials. They have them on and 10000000's of people see them, but only 1000 order the junky product.

Spam works the same way. They send it to 100000000's of people, knowing that a portion of them will actually hit the "button" or send them the info they are asking for...

Here are some of my tips I give my users about SPAM in case you care to read it.:

How can you avoid receiving SPAM?

• Do not provide your e-mail address to anyone except for trusted business clients and contacts.
• Do not provide your e-mail address to on-line services such as an electronic greeting card site. Some of these services do nothing except collect e-mail addresses. If a site requires that you provide an address, create an account specifically for these things (via hotmail, yahoo, etc.).
• Avoid using your e-mail address on Usenet (newsgroups) posts. Usenet is a Spammer’s e-mail-address-collection paradise! If you must post on these newsgroups, be sure to mask your address. (ex MyName AT domain DOT com instead of MyName@domain.com
• Do not ever ”reply” to an e-mail from a Spammer. Even though the SPAM e-mail contains instructions on how to be removed (usually something you can click to Unsubscribe), doing this will only add your e-mail address to a very extensive list of valid e-mail addresses.
• Spammers are able to sell these lists for large amounts of money because the e-mail addresses they contain are valid. Instead you can send a copy of it to the FTC at SPAM@UCE.GOV and let the Government deal with the Spammer.
  
  PLEASE NOTE: Many e-mails come from legitimate vendors, services, and advertisers because you have signed up for their services or information from their organization using your e-mail address. If you wish to be removed from their mailing lists, it is appropriate to follow the “unsubscribe” instructions you receive from them. Legitimate vendors, services, and advertisers will never try to hide their identity and should always honor your request to unsubscribe from their e-mail services.

I used to get them all the time, but I haven't had one in years probably now.

Just like it was said before, get a free yahoo/msn/whatever e-mail address to hand out to everyone and everything that requires an e-mail address. Then keep your personal account seperate. I have been doing that for 8 years now and I have had great luck. It is very simple and easy to do.
