Welcome to the boards.

Go to the PB Bible and you can read all about barrels and the such

The PB Bible (barrel FAQ)

Also you can do a search here on the boards for barrel and you will get a multitude of information.

im assuming because ur just starting out, you dont want to spend alot.. so really here are the things to look for

length- id say 12 or 14 inches
color- to go with your gun
condition-who wants a messed up barrel, so id say buy a new one

also make sure the barrel is spyder threaded

My 11-year-old son and I got started with pb about 18 months ago. I got him a refurbed Xtra, and it's been a great marker for woodsball.

Your first upgrade should be a barrel. I picked up a 14" Winforce Taso for my son at some point last year. It shoots well. Check ebay. You can find some good deals on new and used stuff there. Also check the 'for sale' threads here for some great deals.

After the barrel, it's all up to you. Frankly, my son is quite happy with his Xtra the way it is. He's already decided he wants to get an Angel at some point (beats me why), so he doesn't see any sense in spending money to upgrade the Xtra.

Just poor quality.. Kingman doesn't make their money on their barrels.. They sell beginner Paintball Markers.. That is how they make their money.. So, they don't have to make a good barrels.. Just something that will get the ball somewhere out there..

But, If you look at the company Smart Parts.. They make very good barrels, because it is where they make a lot of their income..

The Smart Parts Progressive barrels are great.. And 14 inches is the PERFECT length.. They are about 35 Dollars and are WORLDS better than the stock barrel.. You will really see a difference.. Big difference..

Here is a link to a good online store for paintball equipment..

proto barrels are really good. well i think so
alot of people argue that the most important aspect of a barrel is to match the paint size to it.

so i doubt you have found a favorite paint yet.... well once you have, since buying paint is going to be the most expensive item in your paintball carrer. then buy a barrel.

i belive the otters sight has a section on this. read it. you wont be sorry..

NEVER buy a barrel over 50-60 bucks. It's a waste of money, in my opinion. Now, you can buy a barrel KIT which is a lot more expensive, but you get several different sizes to help you match paint better. I'm one of those people that tampaimpact wasn't talking about, in that I don't think a perfect paint to barrel match is as important as was previously thought - I've even done tests on it. What I do is match the paint, then go up a size or two larger. No barrel breaks equals a happy Vike!

Like they said, good companies are Smart Parts (their All American barrel is probably one of the best barrels I've ever used. I also have a Freak kit and like it a lot.) J&J makes an Edge kit that I have and like as well, although I'm not a fan of the Ceramic but a lot here are. I really like the Proto barrels as well.

Finally, there's the 32* line of barrels. I started out with a Night Stick as my first barrel and I absolutely loved it. Always have and always will. It's got a larger bore, so most paint will fit through it, it really looks good on a Spyder and is cheap. I also think it's one of their better barrels, but the company itself doesn't have the reputation of the larger barrel companies. Don't be fooled though, they're a great barrel!

Whichever barrel you get, you'll love it over the stock one.
