whats better a mr1 or a tipmann 98 custom? or r they about the same

I fear no Tippman carrier. Both a capable particularly in the hands of someone who knows their gun but the MR1 is lighter, easier to work on and has better gas efficiency.

i second what frat said..our games are predominately tippman or MRs some automags. i would say MR1 or MR2 they are super light. comes with a stock awesome acs system and fairly more accurate stock than a tippman 98c stock

all my friends have a5's with response triggers and apex barrels they are so loud my mr1 with the empire twister is quiet and more accurate. so i usualy beat them to death.lol

I'd say MR1, the 98C is just too inaccurate at stock, and yeah, it's the 98C, I just don't care for it.

You know you can put the Apex front on different barrels don't you?

Why I Bought an MR1 Instead of a 98C - by Ghost Bear Reborn

I like my MR1 because it came with more included out-of-the-box than a 98C, and it's slightly cheaper. The MR1 has the stock, the drop-forward, and the double-trigger. I paid C$149.

I like the feel of the trigger on the MR1. I think the trigger on the 98C is a little stiff.

The 98C would have cost me between C$180 and C$229 (depending on the store), and it would not have included those three little extras. I personally think the 98C is over-priced.

If you plan on upgrading the marker to high heaven, and you require something with lots of available upgrades, the 98C works. But I think the MR1 is better value for the money if you aren't interested in upgrades. Plus, I like the way it looks and its weight distribution better than the 98C.

I find the stock barrel on the MR1 is more accurate than the stock barrel on the 98C.

ON THE OTHER HAND: I did have to get a spring kit for my MR1. With the stock spring, I couldn't get it below 319 fps, and no field would let me use it. The spring kit only cost me C$14.99, but it caused me great aggravation when I was told at the field I'd have to rent a marker.

ON THE OTHER HAND PART TWO: The top-cocking knob on the MR1 is very annoying as it gets in the way of mounting a sight/scope. I find dirt can get into the top because of it, so you gotta enjoy cleaning your marker.

Just a note to folks in the USA, his $149 Canadian=$133 USD. If you buy online, the MR1 can be found easily for $100.

Thanks for mentioning that. I shoulda done it, but I'm lazy.

FYI: I believe the reason for the price discrepancy is because of insane duty imposed by the guvmint (wasn't NAFTA supposed to end all that?!), as well as brokerage fees.

The cheapest I've seen a JT TAC-5, for example, is C$110!!! Crazy. The cheapest for a Spyder Sonix is C$99. For shame...

Any time I buy paintball stuff from an American website, I always have to pay at least C$40 in duty and brokerage fees. Grr...


I also forgot to mention that the stock 98C is really back-heavy when you screw your tank in, and the centre-of-balance for the MRI is almost right in the middle.

The MR1 is also noticeable lighter than the 98C.
