It depends on what your price range is, if you want a compact camera or a full sized one? I have a Kodak Z740 that I bought for under $300 and it has 5 mp and 10X Optical Zoom, If you go to the DeviantArt link in my sig yo can see some of the pictures I have taken with it. The Biggest of Sony's Cybershot series is also a nice camera, my friend has it, If I had $450 thats what i would have bought.

you should also look at the canon s's (s2 and s3 coming out soon) they are high 200's mid to mid 300's but they are 5 and 6mp with 12x opitical zoom. Just sigh of digital slr's but with a small price tag.

A lot of DSLR's even into the $1k+ range are ~3 megapixels... It's not the resolution... It's the control you have over the shot...
