i'm pretty sure the only way to get one would be to buy an MR2, or get one from someone who has an MR2. but because the MR1 has such a short mounting rail, i doubt if it would fit.

No it won't fit. The MR-2 carry handle is also screwed onto the MR-2 so you would have to drill and tap the MR-1 which I would not recomend. The MR-3 Tactical rail I am pretty sure will fit.

The MR-3 tac rail will fit. I have tried it out at a local shop.

Yes the MR3 rail will fit, I have one on my MR1 right now with the spyder red dot mounted on it. The MR3 rail is 7/8 to 3/8 btw.
