Hey folks,
Been a long time since I've been around these parts and wanted to drop in and say hello! How's everyone? Anyhoo, I've been outta the sport for some time now, but started hearing all this buzz about 50 cal and found it very intriguing. Seems like it could jumpstart the industry a bit and bring in some new players - especially if it really lowers costs - I know it would quite possibly bring me back into the game full time. Thoughts/Comments?

I think it could change paintball. It would be a great way to get people to start paintball even with the economy. However, I don't think it should be played at tournament level. People cheat enough, this would only make it easier to cheat.

holy ****, its AJ!
yeah, so basically SP is going under, so the gardners teamed up with richmond italia to make .50 cal versions of all of SPs stuff. as for cost: guns cost the same paint is still $40+ a case only good thing that goes up is shots per fill oh, and so far, velocity will still be 300fps. so shorter distances too.

I jut been doing some reading up on it this morning and it seems to me like a good move for the industry. Diversity breeds competition and a capitalist market needs competition to survive.
Anyhoo, I just got done reading a bunch of crap on PBnation, and of course the threads never stay on topic. I sold all of my equipment some time ago, and just recently played my first games in about 4 years. Here in England (BTW, i am in England right now) field paint cost me about 100 GBP (that's about $165US) per case. Anything that could possibly bring the cost of paint down is welcome in my eyes. I also read that the increased surface tension of the .50 paint allows for a 40% thinner shell, which combats all the talk about non-breakage. I'll be moving back to the states in a few weeks (for good) and after my wife has this next baby (we're working on our second one right now), I'm going to be looking into getting my own equipment again. I hope this .50 cal thing works out. I'd gladly sacrifice a few feet of range for lower costs. The whole 350 balls to a hopper thing sounds pretty good too. -AJ

X2!!! I'll even logon for this one
Welcome back ol bud -.50 cal remains with the community as TBD. I think the target group is noobs. You can expect markers and other stuff from Kingman mid next month some time. I just got their 2010 catalog yesterday. Lotsa new .50 cal stuff including a hopper. Don't think anyone else makes a hopper yet. Dye is dabbling into .50 cal with kits. I think it's Dye - Unless someone sends me a .50 cal to review, I'll stay with the 68's I've been brought up on. I'm not so sure the community has been sold on them yet. Roll the dice and see what happens -

So I guess my end-state question is: If I buy all this .50 Cal stuff, can I just walk up to my local field on Sat/Sun morning and play with other folks shooting .68? Or will all the games be segregated?
Thanks!
