While that holds some truth the first shocker was made in 96 by a company called pneu-venture technologies. It later turned into the shoebox shocker which most of you recognize, and SP had sole distribution rights to it, the shocker was not manufactured by SP until 97. At the same time Pneu-Ventures released the cyber 9000 the first paintball marker with a LCD screen, and built in chrono. Too bad SP stopped distributing their markers for them because this gun was very advanced for its time, only to sell less than the shocker and in turn make the company go bankrupt.
