Defraggin...

Ok, just a question for you guys, its about defragging my computer...

So i downloaded Piriform Defraggler last night and started defragging my HDD, and left it to do its thing while I slept. I wake up this morning, and its at 64% and 65.2GB left to defrag, and then now I come back 2 hours later, and its still at 64% and 65.2GB left, although it has been going through a bunch of files. Should I be worried, or is this normal? ZSo far it has been on for just over 11 hours, which I know is long, but it has never been defragged, so that prob has something to do with it taking so long...

My laptop had never been defragged and it took less than 20 minutes with Defraggler...

11 hours seems a bit too long!

How big is the Partition you're defragmenting? What OS?

500gb, and Vista

Well, 500gb is a TON of space to defragment. Shouldn't take that long, though. The problem with Vista is that is sticks it's MBR right in the middle of the drive. I'd suggest stopping it where it is and trying to defragment it with the built in defragmenter.

EDIT: I'm going to try it on my laptop (has a SATA 7200rpm 160gb drive, partitioned out), and see if I run into the same problem as you.

i just always use windows' defrag. never had a problem with it.

I always use windows defrag, at the most it takes 30-45 minutes for me.

Last time I did it I used windows and it took somwhere around 8 hours...

The Windows defrag always took me over night on my other computers, especially if I was connected to the internet, so I downloaded defraggler. Seems to have worked much faster, but as I said, I never defragged my laptop before.
