I picked up this old-school "Armson Paintball Rifle" pump-action for the equivalent of 8 USD. Come to think of it, the new 9oz CO2 bottle and 50 round hopper I bought for it was more expensive.
Standard features are a spring-loaded ball-detent which only works when the pump is at the back of it's stroke. Plus it's got a removable, rifled barrel and an auto-trigger. Everything still works 100% after more than 14 years (I think this one was made in 94, but I could be wrong and it could be older). The original 10oz bottle I got has "Catalina Cylinders" and "Made in the USA" written on the sticker and the pump has "Made in the Republic of South Africa" stamped on the right-hand side. The first three photos are of the marker I bought, the last is of a spotless Armson with its original coating, which is how I want mine to look after refurbishing. Quick question, should I anodise, paint or powder coat it? Click on the thumbnails for a bigger resolution: ![]()

Meh, seen 'em before. Standard Nelson pump design. To reduce the balls rolling out, just take a bit of electrical tape and put a layer around the back part of the barrel. That's where the ball sits, and there's no way to keep it in except Wedgits, a proper paint to bore match, or that electrical tape trick.
![]() For coloring it... Hmmm... it's up to you. The powder coat might not be that great on the barrel VS anodizing over time, but paint will be horrible. I'd sugest anodizing if you really want it done right. As for cheapness... House of Kolor paint from the auto shop. ![]()

I was asking because I haven't done this before. I want the most durable finish, so annodizing it is then!

I'll try to take some pictures of it done for ya, but it's on the inside of the barrel on the breech/threaded end.
Just a warning... anodizing is NOT cheap! It's about $10-25/part, depending on how many parts, what part, where you go, etc... You might want to end up merely anodizing the barrel, and painting the rest of the parts yourself. The barrel is the part that will get the most wear due to the pump arm, and that's where a nice, durable Type III ano will be sweet if you can find a place that'll do it. Type II will do fine, too, but Type III is preferred. See the Ultimate Resource Thread in my signature for some more information on that.
