well, think of the distance. its a .50 cal, so its probably a good couple hundred yards away, and the metal target absorbed a lot of the impact. actually, i bet the target was too close, and thats why it bounced back so hard...

I mean, the round is supersonic up to a mile right? If it bounced back from that range wouldn't you figure it would have more force and velocity?
