I was actually going to get a SR5 4Runner from Long Island, NY before I saw the Celica. It was clean... really clean. Had new tires, brush guard, and was a 5 speed! He wanted $2,700 for it. I couldn't justify the gas mileage on the thing though... That's the only reason I didn't go for it. That and it was 5 hours away... and the guy sounded sorta shady.

If you want help convincing yourself to keep it, check out Top Gear. They had two episodes where they tried killing a Hilux. (Tacoma/4Runner) They sunk it in the ocean, set it on fire, drove it down stairs, crashed it into a tree, hit it with a wrecking ball, and set it on top of a building that they then blew up. It drove into the studio at the end of the episode. They seriously couldn't kill the thing and built a plaque for it in the studio and mounted it. That Hilux has the same SR5 that your 4Runner has.

I've seen almost every episode of Top Gear, including that one. I absolutely love that show. It is so far above every other episode on American TV, it's ridiculous.

I'm going to stick with my truck for now, though. My dad is going to need the 4Runner for at least another year and I do like my truck. When he gets rid of the 4Runner, I'll re-visit the idea. If I get strapped for cash or change my mind before then, I'll just buy another cheap ride and let him keep the 4R for now.

98 escort, zx2. Blue. I plan on doing some work to it, but since its and everyday driver Body is beat to hell and my "hacks" are a little different than what you may see. This week i'm converting the ignition system to COP(coil over plug). It not only cleans up the engine by removing wires/ coil, and mounting bracket but they are more efficient than what is on there now.

Well, I brought it to Red Eye Imports (Local tuning shop) and had Ryan put it up on the lift so I could see under it and look at it with him.

List of problems:
-Fuel leak in filler neck, fuel line, and fuel tank. (Tank also has cysts that may... pop soon)
-Breaks are in terrible condition and almost gone
-Tires are dry-rotted and the wrong size. 3 are the same size and 1 is larger even (even though he changed them from the original ones that were on it)
-Break cables were replaced but zip tied back onto the frame instead of clamped like the were originally
-Scary wheel shake at 65
-Large oil leak down the back side of the engine. Possibly valve cover, possibly something else
-Power steering belt is rubbing against the timing cover and there is a lot of fluid on and around the pump... Power steering is virtually non-existent.
-Belts need to be replaced
-Radiator needs to be flushed and new hoses need to be put on
-Possible thermostat replacement due to the engine not warming up fast enough

Other then that, the car is pretty solid. I'm waiting back from Graves Auto to see what else there is. He'll be able to print me something out and let it be more official than just written down.

That sounds like an after noons work!

Get rid of the PS and other than the tires it looks like you can fix all those problems pretty easily.
