ja, ich hatte das Luger kauft im Rothenberg, Deutschland. Es war ungefähr $120 aber es ist fantastisch. Ich liebe waffen von 1940s.

yeah, i had bought the luger in Rothenberg germany. It was about 120 bucks but its fantastic. I love weapons from the 1940s. (not so sure i structured my sentence correctly though)

It's fine, except the second verb usually goes unconjugated at the end of the sentence (I'm pretty sure).

i've noticed that some of you're guys' tenses are a little off, but sentence structuring is fine.

any german could understand what you're trying to say.

Konnen Sie sag mal was ist nicht richtige uber unser tenses? Danke

Can you explain with examples what you mean by our tenses being off? I would like to learn how to say things correctly. Thanks

Hmmm, sorta like Spanish then in that sense of verb conjugation. I didn't know that!

I've only seen one once up close, and was amazed at it's design. Give it to the Germans to make a gun with no screws!

it should be "Konnen Sie mal sagen was nicht richtig ist mit unser tenses?" (actually, if you want to get down to it, i think the proper sentence structure would be "Konnen Sie mal sagen was mit unser tenses nicht richtig ist?")
i dont know the rule that goes with that, because i never paid much attention to german grammar.

"sag" is the root word. the suffixes for verbs are "te" "Er/Sie/Es sagte" (he/she/it said), and "en" as in "sagen" (to say). i think for the first one, the exception is if there are other words between the subject and verb, you add "ge" in front of it and drop the "e" at the end, so it would be "Er hatte das gesagt." (he said that.) and about the luger, it should be "gekauft". i think thats pretty much right. like i mentioned before, i never went to a german school, and i breezed through german I and II because everything was instinctive, so i never bothered memorizing all the grammar rules (heck, i didnt even bother trying to learn english grammar rules in high school!)

My German teacher may be wrong (a German exchange student at my school has said he got some things wrong) but he said in simple past (hatte/war) you use the regular form of the verb. Thanks for the explanation, German grammar confuses me sometimes.

Edit: Es tut mir Leid, fur Englisch schreiben. Ich hatte zu faulenzen fur Deutsch schreiben.

Sorry for writing in English. I have been too lazy to write in German.

PS: Is it just me, or has anyone else been spelling english words the german way?

Here's a grammar tip I just remembered, I don't know how well it holds with the more advanced German, but, at least in beginner German if it sounds a lot like medieval English when you translate it literally it's most likely correct.

Ex: Was spielst du?

lit: What play you?

Ex: Konnen Sie mit meine Hausaufgaben helfen?

lit: Can you with my homework help?
