Right, which is why you need a very specific flame on the set screw that you stripped.
Do it carefully and don't get the surrounding metal very hot if you can help it.

I just got another idea that maybe would work or maybe it would be horrible. What if I use a drill press and drill straght through the screw and tap the hole to a bigger thread. Would that work or just screw up my bolt even more?

It'd work. Why not just drill a little smaller than the screw so you can squash what little is left of the screw and yank it out and just replace it directly?
