Default ? For all you grease monkeys

My car has been being retarde recently and I am trying to figure it out but I can't. Randomly it will just die. It happened today on my way home from school while I was going 55 on the country nroads and about a week ago it happened as I was starting after stopping at a stop sign. I can't figure it out, there aren't realy any other symptoms that I can remember. Dooes anyone have any idea?

Go to Autozone or Checker and have them test your battery and alternator. I'm guessing it might be the alternator because that your main power source while the car is running, the battery is pretty much there give the first jolt to start it and then as a back up to the alternator.

i had an escort station wagon that used to do that. It would be fine if i ran it over 40ish for a while. but if it was stop and go, it would die out when i hit the gas. I suck with cars, the mechanic is a good family friend. haha.

as shunut said it would either be the battery or alternator.

Does it spudder or anything? Because if it does, it may be your fuel pump/fuel lines.

If it starts OK then suddenly dies out as you're driving and after sitting there for 10 - 15 minutes starts again, it's could be the ignition module. There are points in the module and when they go bad they overheat. The overheating causes the points to seperate. Once it cools down the points then make contact and your vehicle starts once more until it overheats again. Take it somewhere and have the codes checked -

BTW.....I'm a DRAGON not a monkey -

I would definitely agree that it's probaly the ignition module and if it's not the ignition module, it's another sensor like maybe the map sensor or something of that nature. Hook it up to a computer and see which sensor it is. You can definitely rule out the batter and alternator (most likely) because a car doesn't just stop and then run again except when it's something electronically.

My son who is a mechanic says that either Auto Zone or one of those type places will throw an analyzer on it for nothing and tell you what's wrong since they'll prolly be selling you the part anyways. Call around first and see before stalling 3 time on the way then finding it was another place -

Like I said its nt that frequent haha, it happened twice in the past 3 weeks, and Dragon the problem with the cooling heating thing, is that the first time it happened I just got down the road, and this time I had driven like 7 miles. Anyways the ignition thing sounds like its the most likey culprit, and Ill see about getting it checked out.
