ok a friend and i were having an arguement, do you think that when a person is in an awkward situation, saying "awkwardddd..." helps make the situtuation less tense/awkward?

i think it makes the person look stupid, and make the situation even more awkward

sometimes... for example:

if you are friends with someone in your group, but they arent really close to you (like you hang out with them because they are part of the group, but you've never really gotten to know them), and everyone else leaves the room except you and him/her. there is always an inevitable akward silence, and i think it helps to break the silence when you say it.

however, if you are complete strangers with someone, saying akward can just make the situation worse, because it can be taken a number of ways.

clause you seem to get in lots of arguments with people, lol not that its a bad thing. but id say on the awkward thing it depends on the situation.

they're friendly arguements. but, like with knives.

and i said sometimes it could loosen the situation, he said it never did. so when we got on the ski lift and it stoped directly across from some guy riding it down (lol n00b!) and stayed there for a good couple of seconds, i had to test it.... it worked.

I think if you are in an awkward situation, you should use the social skills you've developed to make the situation less awkward.

i think if you know the person at least somewhat well, (and you have a semi-sarcastic/clowning nature) saying that will break the ice and at least get a few laughs, or at least stall to get something to talk about
