![]() Multiple stabs to the mid section = less of a factor on the ground which is where this is ending up.

You guys keep saying, I'll block the bat swing, I'll dodge the bat swing. I can say I'll do the same when you come at me with a knife. With a bat it would be way easier for me to keep you further away from me. And despite what you think about blocking a bat with your arm, if I land a blow anywhere on you with a bat, you aren't gonna just be able to shrug it off and continue like nothing happen. I'll take the bat all day long.

![]() All im saying is that the bat is only useful at a certain distance, and breaking that threshold only takes a small calculation and two steps.

![]() There's just too many factors that surround both choices to make a logical decision about it. I say, send it to Mythbusters!
![]() They just did one with a gun vs. a knife.

![]() I dunno, I'd be taking my chances with the bat going for a midsection hit.
If I break your arm you still have an arm to swing with. If I break a rib, you aren't going to be moving too fast. A brisk walk and I'm out of that situation. :P |

![]() I'd still go with a bat. First, it'd allow me to keep YOU away from me (at a distance). Second, I'm pretty damn strong. IF I connect, you aren't deflecting it. It will break something or put it to sleep so you can't use it. Third, you're implying that I'm just wildly swinging. A real fighter won't do that. He'd pick his shots, and have just as many openings as the guy with the knife. As i said before, you're going to have to be quick and perfect to hit an organ to slow me down. Finally, you can do more with a bat than just swing it. You can deflect with it, you can block with it, you can jab with it, you can push with it.
A knife? To use it effectively you have to get close and you can only slash or stick. It's small, too. If you're lucky, or a master trained knife wielder, you MIGHT hit something vital and slow the person down - but that would be right before the guy hit you in the head and beat you to death with the bat. Baseball bat, all day long.

![]() I'm assuming the use of a high quality 3.5-4" pocket knife. Granted, I did say minimal, but what I meant was minimal compared to a direct hit. It is a fact that a grazing blow deals far less damage than a direct one. However, with a knife, a glancing blow can result in nearly as bad of an injury. The arteries in the wrist, for instance, if the aim was for the forearm. If you can grab the bat and pull your assailant in, even while sustaining a broken hand, it may be possible to land blows with the knife to the chest, arms, face, throat, etc.
It all depends on an individual's pain tolerance and strength in the end, and like Dan said, there are too many variables.

![]() For the average person, the smart choice would be the bat since the majority of people arent trained for close combat and probably havent tried to attack someone with a knife but most people have swung a bat.
for someone trained for close combat and martial arts, the knife could be a better choice since they may be able to absorb a couple blows while hitting a vital area with the knife. |
