Default Chances of Failing hydro test

hey,

I just bought a crossfire 68/4500 tank on ebay, He said its in used condition yet still very nice. And he said the date on the tank is 12-03. Is there any chance i would fail the hydro test with this tank? In the pic the thank looks great so i hope I'm gonna be ok.

thanks
-Conrad

well, theres really no way to tell except to get it done. they overpressurize the tank to see if it develops any cracks, so while there may be none now, they could develop later.

unless its been dropped alot the chances of it not repassing hydro the first time are slim to none, you really have to abuse a tank to make it unsafe.

I believe that there has to be a gouge 2" by 2" for them to make it automatically fail. Other than that... as DF said, no way to tell.

yup, along with what was said before, it depends on how well the tank was taken care of. if there was no fill nipple and dirt was filled into the tank through the nipple then there could have been pressurized dirt beating your tank on the inside and you wont know the damage until its tested... i mean, isn't that the point of having it tested, to test what we cant see?

just bring it in, chances are it will pass. but either way, be safe! if you can.. see if you can condition the sale on if it passes hydro or not. just a possibility?

pressurized dirt sounds pretty serious. LOL!
as others said, unless it was abused or has some nasty dings/scratches/gouges in it, i wouldnt worry... i have a tank from 99 with a current hydro.
