if the tape doesnt work you could dremel the entire ridge off, bend a paper clip so it looks like:
|______| then drill holes smaller than the paperclp (if you can, if you cant... uh hammer a needle threw or sumthing) then superglue it in the hole. aka the dfel paperclip mod. and yes, i just made it up. |

Get new shells and learn by your mistakes or put the springs back in and they should half way hold the lid up -

Heh, no springs, and there's no way in ****ing hell I'm gonna buy another set of shells. Especially not after the living hell it's been these last 24 hours with these ones. I'll just figure something out to fix it.....

If you have a small lip, get a few small magnets from the "Shack" make a small indent in the plastic and epoxy the magnets in place. That should be enough to keep it closed.
