A nice little 1911 though...cheap...is the Springfield GI 45...had one...LOVED it...just added a neoprene recoil pad and some cocobolo grips.

Not a fan of the .45 cal. I like the .40 cal S&W or a 9mm better. My dad sold his Dan Wesson .357 Mag 2 years ago so that he could buy his Sig Sauer P229 in .40 cal. 3.9" barrel has 10 and 12 round magazines for it. I would have to say that the .40 caliber is my favorite round because, to me, it feels like no more kick than a 9mm but more stopping power. Plus, they have to be nice for alot of law enforcement officers (at least around here) to carry 40's.45 is big, slower and has a lot of kick.

I doubt I'll ever use my pistol from any range longer than 6 feet, so I'm more worried about putting a big hole in whatever I'm trying to stop. .45 will do just that, and its cheaper for .45 in the model I want rather than .40.

I love this one. Its the only gun I've ever bought back besides to buy for someone else. I've wanted a few of my old guns back, but I would have never attempted to find one of them.
