Why Do I Need an Expensive Gun?

Ok well I am just wondering why I need a high end gun to compete in tournaments or against the big dogs? Why do I need a higher end gun if my low end gun can shoot as fast as I pull the trigger? Whats the difference? Why buy 500$ dollar guns when you can buy plenty of cheaper guns that can keep up with your trigger finger? Can someone please explain this to me? Because I am pretty much stumped on this subject.
