Short barrels used to be a real big thing before airball fields became popular. They're actually fairly useful for playing front on hyperball fields where all of the bunkers are solid. Also, in regards to your statement:

Nice review. It is definitely helpful because I'm thinking about buying one and couldn't find any trustworthy reviews. BTW, which freak insert did you get, or did you buy all 3 with the barrel? And, which bore size do you find most useful?

I bought one and got the 2 largest freak sizes. My porting is in a straight line down the barrel instead of spiral though. Great barrel for the price.

Your gonna love it...to answer your other questions I use .684 for reballs and .687 or .689 depending on the temp of the day. Unlike many I believe in a tight bore match and it usually pays off.

Just a quick update:
I had polished up the inside of mine with a shotgun swab and automotive wax. There was little difference. After reading on-line that a lot of people have used Rain-X on their barrels with good results I then applied some to mine. I was shooting wildly curving balls in all directions. (much like when velocity is too high) I tried a few different brands of paintballs before I realized it was the Rain-X and I washed it off. Problem solved. Evidentally you can have too slippery of a barrel surface; the balls need some friction to achieve a good trajectory. I just thought I'd pass along that info.
