Is dry firing bad?

I was talking to a newbie online, and he was telling me that all over the place people said it was bad to dry fire. Now I'm asking, where is all over the place, he doesn't have any links for me though.

Now, whats your opinion on dry firing, is it bad for the gun?

I personally have always dry fired, and see nothing wrong with it, nor could think of any damage it'd cause.

I don't think it's bad. I think it would be just like normal use.

there's nothing wrong wtih it. unless you have a certian gun with a brass valve, where dry firing causes it to damage the valve. but that's an OLD~ gun. on any other gun, dry firing does nothing

I've always dry fired my guns. Haven't had anything adverse happen to mine However, I know in some guns, like my shocker, dry firing can blow out the detents so a lot of people just remove them before doing it.
