Is there a difference between the pilot and the pilot acs bodies?

yes there is.

o i thought you were talking about the 05 acs. i dont know about the pilot and the pilot acs as in a body difference.

yes the acs body has different milling. i just ordered one for a spimmy conversion.
no wait... they are the same. they are just different colors.

Internal dimensions and parts are identical.

so if I wanted to take a regular pilot in blue and get a red/black acs body for a color change it should in theory work?

Anyway, a body and barrell for $15 to start messing around with modifications/ups on to learn on seems a good deal even if they can't interchange.

Not in thoery, in reality. Everything will interchange. There may be a little slop in some parts due to not so tight tolerances, but up'd parts will work for you.
