Hey everyone. I need a general people's opinion on which finish on a bass guitar to get. Currently, I own a tiger flame P-bass copy, and I want to move up to a better instrument. I already decided on an Epiphone Thunderbird, but I don't know which finsish to get it in.
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...ass?sku=518391 Please click on the mini picture and cast a vote for Vintage Sunburst (the first finish) or Ebony (black, the second). I'm leaning towards Ebony, but I'd like to know what everyone thinks. BTW, Epiphone doesn't make left-handed basses. I'm going to have to re-string it and turn it upside-down. Please picture the bass upside-down in your mind. lol

Alright man.... IMO moving up to a better instruments should entail a larger fret board with another string.... There are plenty of 5 strings out there that can be in that price range LOL...
Ok enough lousy suggestions Ebony FTW...

lol thanks chubbs, but I don't need another string, I'm a 4 stinger guy. My way of moving up is from a $100 bass to a $400 bass. I need something with a bit more quality. Plus, I already played it at a guitarcenter. I loved the neck.

My oldest boy bought the middle son a 5 string for his b-day. He kinda liked it at first but went back to the Ibanez I bought him years back. Ibanez is nice because they have a thin neck and are concave at the back of the body. A very comfortable bass for a decent price. It's very easy to barter prices at Guitar Center. For prices there: don't be afraid to ask for a lower price, you just might get it -

Yeah, I took a look at it. Seemed cool enough, but I just didn't care for it all too much. I'd rather have the T-bird on the guard too. But thats just me. I went to Guitarcenter the other day, and they had the sunburst. It looked really nice. More of a mahogany burst, but it was nice. I played it, and even though I had to play it upside-down, it felt really nice. Sounded great through their setup in the "bass room" too. Very punchy, and gives me a sort of muddiness I don't seem to get with my P when I wanted it. Great with a pick or fingers, and I loved the concave thumbrest the pickup covers had.
