 Could be that the pressure was too high from an overfilled co2 tank?

Leave the marker cocked for about a week and it will lessen the resilience of the main spring and lower the velocity. Stock Spyder springs tend to be a bit heavy till they're broken in. A spring kit isn't a bad idea either -
