I've seen this term used time and time again on these forums and was just wondering what this means.

It is the type of operation of a gun. A spyder is a blow back.

In a gun with this type of operation, a bit of the air goes through the valve and "blows" the striker (hammer) back to a cocked position after it's been fired.
