This weekend is our annual Celtic Classic Highland Games and Festival and I'm on teh way out the door! I'll be there all weekend so don't expect me to post much. I'm taking the camera and going to gangster the next 3 spots so I have a place to put the pics. I'm already in my Kilt and raring to go!....MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Sadly, I slept through the caber and sheaf toss competitions but I got a lot of other stuff... 56 lb weight toss for distance. 50 feet is the Record...most were around 48' ![]() ![]() Drum Major Competition... ![]() Massed bands to begin the Games... ![]() Clan Tents and some vendors from the bridge you will see in other shots. ![]() Food vendors in white tents...entertainment in the red/white striped tent... ![]() ![]() Wares vendors...CDs, clothes, that kinda stuff... ![]() The field in the upper center portion of the next pic is the Athletics Competition field. This is where they hold the Caber Toss (telephone pole), Weights for distance and height (28 and 56 lbs), Hammer toss (28 lb for distance), Sheaf Toss (bale of excelsior for height), Stone Put (throwing a 38 lb stone shot-put style for distance)... ![]() YUMMY!!! Crab Brisque, served in a "bread Bowl"....nummy nummy!!! ![]()

Pipe Band Competition...
There were a slew of bands there...I'll only post a few... ![]() ![]() This is the Band I belonged to from 1985 to 1993. Bagpipe bands are grouped and rated by Grade. Grade I are the absolute best and Grade v (5) are the Novice. When we entered Competitions in 1988, we entered into Grade III. The first season was a string of 3rds and 2nd Places. The following year we entered into Grade III, we wiped them all and ranked Grade III Supreme. The EUSPBA mandated we upgrade to Grade II where we competed for the next 5 years in Grade II. Conflicts with my family life (first born daughter) and work schedule forced me to abandon the Band in 1993. A few years after I resigned from the band, the rest of the membership also experienced similar conflicts and the group disbanded. A few years ago, My Pipe Major started the Band up again with almost a whole new crew. The players are young and less experienced but they are getting pretty good. I never found out how well they did this year (placement) and I'm seriously considering swapping to night shift so I can rejoin the Band. I have continued to play the Pipes for myself and random events, weddings, funerals etc...but I truly miss the Band days... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() another Band... ![]() Another Weight for Distance...56 lb I believe... ![]()

I had a blast. I'm thinking of going night shift so I can rejoin the band and get back into competing again. I have enough seniority in the prison that I can have my choice of any shift and almost any vacation day I want. In the pic above, I'm wearing the Black Watch plaid (a District Tartan) because a kilt in my Clan's colors will cost me around $1K to have one made. There are 4 of us that can wear them (myself and the 3 daughters). My wife, would wear a sash called a Plaid that goes over the shoulder because she married into the Clan. Here are the 2 I have to choose from... #1...the EWWWWWIE Ancient Clan Young tartan...This is the one that actually applies to my family. The original reference is so old, the colors vanished and this is the approximation of what it looked like. I'd have hoped they had a better imagination -.- ... ![]() #2...the better choice of the 2. This plaid was redesigned in 1998 I believe. If I'm not mistaken, Clan Young was absorbed into Clan Douglas and in 98, they petitioned to separate into its own, distinctive Clan. With the approval from Scotland, the new tartan was created and this is it... ![]() ...a little 'loud' for me but hey...it's mine...lol
