Well, I really had my mind set on a Freak.. But While I was searching around Durrell's store, I came accross a pretty good deal.. A J&J Edge Barrel Kit.. 5 different Bore size backs and 3 different tips (12,14,16).. All for only 77 Bucks!! I am amazed...
I was just wondering if any of you have used this barrel and how does it compare to a Freak...? I am guessing that if you match your paint, then it will be just as accurate.. Since paint-to-barrel match is pretty important.. Thanks guys, and Lmk what you think I should do...

Never used it, but I've used other barrels from J&J and they're great.

If you get a different gun, just trade the back or sell it and get one in the right threads lol. Overboring will end up being easier in the long run because you don't have to size the balls before you use them or lug around the kit to the field; you just load the hopper and go.

Freak, that way if you get a new gun you only have to drop $50 on a new back.

I have a freak kit and a J&J Edge kit.
The J&J is a good little kit. Shoots straight, it's really nice having several control bore backs instead of inserts and it looks really good on a gun. Here it is on my old T1 I had...pardon the drop - what the heck was I thinking???? First pick is kind of hard to see, the second is kind of small to see it in detail....sorry! ![]() ![]() The negative to it was that if you want to move it to another gun with different threads, well, you can't without buying a whole new kit. This is why I don't use it anymore (my wife uses it on her spyder now.) That, and the control bores are a weird size - like instead of .689 bore, you might have a .688 - they're like 1 or 2 off the normal. It doesn't affect anything, just a little weird! The freak is also a good kit in my opinion. I got my complete kit with an AA front for $110.00 off ebay in excellent condition, or I probably wouldn't have bought it. It's REALLY easy to match paint with it, no matter what size which helps with speed and efficiency, and I haven't had any problems with aluminum inserts getting dented or whatever. Also, there was some hype going around about the inserts spinning - that's a load of crap, by the way. If they spin, you need to change the oring in your barrel back! Mine NEVER spin. Stays exactly the same. So in this case, solid bore backs don't make a difference, because in a sense, that's what the freak may as well be with the insert installed. Here's a pic of what they look like on my guns... ![]() However, accuracy wise, it's no better than my All American. I was shooting small bore paint (xball bronze) in a tournament on a very chilly morning and the paint was so small, I couldn't get my fps above 260. The freak would have been great on that day! Also, as Chris Cole said, it only takes buying a new back and you have a completely new barrel kit. I did that with my Angel - bought an Angel back for like 50.00 and have two complete kits in one. Awesome! As far as ultralights go, they are good barrels, but too expensive for me. The ones I've shot were no more accurate than the Edge or the Freak. One you MIGHT consider though, is the Redz Pepper Stick kit. I've heard it's pretty amazing, and last I saw it was only about 100.00 or so.

Thanks Vike... I looked at the PepperStikz kit and it was like 160, so that is a little too pricey for me... I think I will go with the Freak, just because I might get an 06 Proto or something later, during the winter months... And it will be easier to switch from ION threads to Cocker threads with the Freak...
Thanks everyone for the help!! : )
