threads are up'd or bumped to bring them to the top off the page thus helping users identify active sales thread vs. dead sales thread.

are you referring to when someone posts:
'up'

in their thread? This is to bring their thread back "up" to the top of the page where it is more visible. People also use 'bump' and 'TtT which is for 'to the top', among other things.
