Rate The Thread
 

I notice that almost all threads here on SOC aren't getting rated. I don't know about you guys; but I look for the ratings on threads not only here but at other sites with the same feature. Just thought I'd throw it out there. :)

I've noticed that threads that are rated tend to be the one's started by people who everyone else wants to suck up to, not because of the content. I'm not criticizing, it's just the way it appears.

I guess I can see where that might happen. It would be helpful where if there were several threads on the same topic, say going LP for instance, and you were looking for that info you could click on the best rated thread to start. Or, if you were simply surfing and saw a topic that sparked your interest you could see by the rating if it was worth viewing.

In 5 years on this forum, I've rarely looked at the rating of a thread except to wonder why it got that high of a rating at times. I agree with Critical in that sometimes - if the thread were started by someone popular - or as he put it trying to get in good with someone else it'd get high marks no matter what the content was.

I don't know how the rating system works on forums, but I suppose if it had a rating based on the AVERAGE of all the different ratings given, it'd be much more accurate. Doesn't really matter to me either way since I pretty much look at all the new posts since last visiting - I use the New Post link at the top of the page.

Most forums that I have been on would have some first time poster pinging their garbage with a four or five star rating so I have just learned to not pay attention to them...
