Does the T-board HAVE to use the 9.6 v NiMH or can it use a regular 9 volt?

LIke the title says, just wondering so I can have a spare at the field when I play...it seemed like the stock MR2 BOARD didn't want to work for me correctly with just a regular 9 volt.

I've used a regular 9v before with no problems. It was either duracell or energizer.

Uses either re-chargable or standard 9v.
