Marriotts Ridge High eSchoolnewsletter
The information below regarding a staff member at Marriotts Ridge was released to the school system and the public around 10 AM today. We worked with Central Office staff throughout the rest of the day to prepare how we would respond to this situation so that we can best support our students and staff. Due to the timing of the information release, we were not able to officially meet with our staff until after school. The following statement explains the allegations and outlines our plan of action for Tuesday. Thank you for your continued support of our outstanding school community.
On Thursday, February 15, 2007, Ms. Kirsten Kinley, a special education teacher at Marriotts Ridge High School, was arrested and charged with multiple sex offenses involving a male teenager. The charges are the result of allegations brought forward by a minor who is not now and never was a Marriotts Ridge High School student. Ms. Kinley has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. No further details are available at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
When we hear news like this, our individual reactions may vary. We find situations like this difficult when we have questions that cannot be answered. Marriotts Ridge’s administration and student services staff in addition to the school system’s Crisis Intervention Team, are available to provide support to students and staff members. A statement regarding this information and the services available will be read to students on Tuesday morning and a letter will be sent home that afternoon.
We do want to assure you that the safety and well-being of Marriotts Ridge High School students is our priority. It is the collective responsibility of students, parents, and staff to ensure that we teach and learn in a safe and supportive environment. While it is never easy to come forward and report concerns related to peers or staff, we encourage our students to speak with an administrator or other trusted staff member whenever they suspect any wrongdoing.
As the strong community that we are, we will unite in working through this situation. If you have specific questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s school counselor, our administrative team, or me.
