Just a little '80s themed stuff I did tonight.

I'm not super happy with how they turned out. I did a horrible job defining the subject in the second picture, as the focus was more on the headphones than the boombox. They're both a little more busy than I would have liked. But I do think I captured the '80s feel a little bit...

Here are some of the pictures I took at the club on Friday night.

Overall, I wasn't very happy with how they turned out. One, I shot in medium resolution high quality JPEG rather than in RAW at full resolution, so even IF these pictures were decent, which they're not, they wouldn't be able to live up to their full potential. Two, my on-camera flash wasn't pleasing me, so I ended up doing a lot of long exposures and shutter drag. This was pretty much my downfall. I got a few shots with a neat artistic effect from it, but I would have much rather had a lot more usable shots and added effects in post-processing. Regardless, this is what I got this week so here we go.

Also note that I didn't do ANY post processing on any of these, and also that I didn't sharpen after I resized, contributing so some of these pictures being EXTRA-soft...

Dang it... Just noticed that I had a bit of lint on my backdrop :( Argh... Meh... Too lazy to touch up right now... This might be a portfolio shot though. I'm applying to the Art Institute of Boston at Leslie University and I need to work up my portfolio fast.

Decent. I like natural pictures better, not stuff that people are posing for or that someone has setup.

Well lucky you, I've got about 500 of those from the club. Haha I'll post some just for you.

Should have mentioned that it was a fashion show sponsored by the company I work for. Haha

Haha yeah we(Cocaine) were sponsoring the event... So we provided the club with a bunch of cases of it.

For the record: It mixes with a certain Russian liquid really well.

Gah, I'm getting stressed out... I've got so much to do for my portfolio and SO little time.

I think I'm going to actually get a gallery together and ask for permission to display at a local coffee shop. It would look terrific on my application, and it would get my name out there a little bit.

And as I learned this past weekend, the slightest bit of entrepreneurship goes a hell of a long way. The issue is going to be pulling the money together to pull it off... I can run 20"x30" prints for about $10 a piece, but mounting is going to be the super-expensive part. I'm planning on doing about 20 pictures, and alone that's $200 worth of prints. Framing and sorts, if I do it myself, is probably going to run me about $500 more... I've got money coming in right now from working for Cocaine, but I've still got a ways to go as far as building up my studio equipment and sorts. I'm planning on getting some studio strobes and possibly some constant light source lamps, and that's going to dent the wallet even further. But once I get the studio set up, I can start doing portraits and sorts, so... I don't know... A lot to figure out, and I'm getting pretty stressed out about it... I just really want to make it into this school... Gah. Haha

I think you're really rushing into this. Take some time, experiment more and you'll build a better portfolio. You're gonna rush yourself, and end up giving the school crap to look at. Take your time with building your portfolio. I have one shot total that I would consider putting in a portfolio. I'm gonna start shooting again, and I'm gonna make a thread for myself that I'll update.
