View Full Version : NEWEST MR2/MR3 Grip Update!

Hey guys, I am finally done the grips and they are ready to be cast.

The words "WARFARE" are done in a rough surface lettering and will be cast directly into the finished product. This should add more grip to the final product.

Now, I am going to try to cast these in a semi-ridgid rubber. Not sure if it will work since they are quite thin but will give it a try. I will post the first cast example next week. Since this first one will be in Black Rubber are there any other colours you would like to see? I was thinking of a Sand or Olive Green colour.

Let me know what you think.

It looks great!! Do let us know when you are ready for pre-orders.

Standard would be Coyote Tan, OD Green, Urban Grey and Black.

If I might suggest, you should match those colors to the ones found on combat stocks and RIS panels. Vltor, LMT and Magpul all have OD and Tan modstocks. If its closer to the tones of those products then it would be more incentive to get a set of those grips for the MR2 (or 2 or 3 depending on how many modstocks they own). If you're keen on making wooden grips based on your working model then it might be interesting for AK modders too :D.

And I don't mean to be a pain in the ass, but I'd like to have one without the words on it.

Why not just post them on our own Buy Sell Trade forum? That will save us all the middleman (Ebay) and cut unnecessary costs. Although I'm sure you could sell them on Ebay to get to those who don't go to forums.

Yep, been awhile. I have cast the grips in Black Polyurethane plastic. Turned out quite good but need to make a few adjustments. These will be done in the next week and will then re-cast them in Black Urethane rubber.

Once these are done I will post new pics and start taking orders from the previous requests. For now I have added a pic of the Black plastic one to the following album.

Hey guys, please be patient. They will be done very soon. Had to strengthen them a little by adding two more finger grips. Also had a bit too much space between the grip and frame so had to thicken them up slightly.

Will be posting new pics of the revised grips by the end of tomorrow. I would like to thank everyone who has been patient with the development. You won't be dissapointed with the outcome.

DRAGON
02-24-2007, 10:54 PM
Got you out of the endless abyss of obscurity didn't it? - ;)

patshortland
02-24-2007, 11:28 PM
Dragon, No you didn't. I check this forum all the time.

I don't want to sound like a broken record by updating all the time. The grips will be ready when ther'e ready. As I indicated previously I needed to revamp the grips so they actually fit tighter on the frame. As well I needed to add more rigidity as the first ones, when cast in rubber, were just to flexible around the front. I do not make crap nor will I give crap to anyone else. If the members of this forum have to wait a bit longer for a better product I am sure they don't mind. Lastly, I am sure those that criticize have never created something of quality from scratch or work a second job and have families.

Again, thanks to all that have been patient and please look by day's end tomorrow for the final pics before casting.

The Booth Man
02-25-2007, 12:03 AM
Hey I don't mind waiting for a quality product. I check the forums a lot to see when they will be done.

Being a parent and working two jobs doesn't really leave you much time for hobbies does it? I understand where your coming from. I also appreciate your effort on these grips, especially the extra time it takes to fine them so they fit right and don't fall apart in the middle of a game.

Good luck!

patshortland
02-25-2007, 02:12 PM

Hey, I think we should ease off and not give pat so much stress - its a private endeavour so it might or might not work out. If it happens good for us, if not, then its a learning process for everyone here. Its not easy to get your own products up without some financial backing.

Hey Wylde, I thought I did respond. Sorry.

Finishing the mold today. When I created the first half of the mold the clay base ripped off the inside finish of the grip, severely damaging it. Needed to fix it before pouring the second half. Just when one thinks things are going to go good sh***t happens. Oh well.

I am pouring the second half of the mold tonight and will, with any luck, post final pics of the cast black grip by tomorrow. After that I can start sending them out to you guys.

Anyone else hear anything? I'm starting to get worried. I tried to PM him but it says his PM box is full and cannot accept any more messages. I hope we all didnt get ripped off...

Scammage?

Ya, this guy is a real work. I tried to warn them. :smirk: There are reparations that can be administered if you don't wait that long -

Ah, so thats why scammers don't just laugh at you in the face as soon as they get your money? I suppose though that people won't get as worked up when they slowly just don't hear anything back...

Do you know the length of time before you can't do anything?

Yeah I think two weeks without any direct communication is enough time to seek a refund. I'm gonna contact Paypal within the next two days if I don't hear from this guy.

Lets put the pressure on him to see if he decides to come out of hiding to address our scammage claims.

Bytheway Dragon, I like your idea about using the grip covers much more now. If this guy proves to be a scammer, I'm just gonna go down to a local store and pick up a pair for $7.

wow! im glad that i decided to wait to buy these. i thought that it might be a smart idea to wait untill a few people recieved them before i placed an order, just in case he really was scamming.

I'm gonna throw my 2cents in on this one, and go out of my way to say I think this guy is legit, Ive done custom work before, and I know how long it takes to make something like this. But I can bet you one things for sure, most of, if not all of the members that have been in this forum bad mouthing this guy, will be in line for a set of these grips when there are finished! Just my take on it. The guy has posted numerous times that it was gonna take a little longer, for the ones that paid for such grips, just hold in there, I'm sure they are worth the wait. If theres one thing this guy did wrong, that was probably start taking orders before they were finished, but then again I know a couple big paintball companies that have done the same thing and you aren't complaining about them are you! It will all work out in a positive way!

it wouldn't be so bad waiting if the guy would just come on every once in a while and say something. but when he goes for a few weeks without mentioning anything and people have already paid then that makes the story completely dif.

I agree, I wouldn't mind waiting longer than expected but the guy suddenly desapear after receiving payment form alot of members here and we don't have any news...if theirs complication you normally inform your costumer

If that's pointed at me, I had an interest initially but saw something I didn't quite like about this whole thing. The grips I have currently are just fine. Pat Shorthand seems to be one of the habitual procrastinatiors I've seen on the net for quite a while now. They get on a forum, blab about what they're gonna do, then disappear into obscurity letting a bunch of people down. I'm in hopes this Shorthand guy at least returns the money he took from y'all -

I can name a couple right off the top of my head, Maddman and ACP. They did the exact same thing and both went out of business. Maddman was finally bought out by someone else. The only reason the name still stands today -

I understand what it takes to do custom work. Thats not the problem. If Pat Shortland is legit, then he should get on here and defend himself. Those of us who paid in good faith are his customers!

I honestly don't mind waiting a few weeks for these grips, as long as Pat gives me an honest timeline, and maintains a line of communication. If he wants to gain repeat cutomers then he needs to focus on customer service as well as getting those grips done.

Hey Guys, just thought I would update everyone. The grips I created and thought were completely finished are just delayed slightly. Let me explain.

I didn't like the rubbers available for casting, some too soft, while others too hard. Even the smell coming off the different rubbers were awful. This ruled out the harder rubber I expected to use when I said I was ready for orders.

Anyways I settled on the first rubber I tried which I thought was too soft. To strengthen the grip and add support I had to create an inner frame out of plastic and then cast it as well. This added a few weeks of trial and error which I wasn't expecting.

In the end the grips feature a hard plastic inner section with cast rubber around them. They look identical to the ones already shown.

I know this dissapoints allot of people and if you have any concerns or dissapointments please PM me. You WILL get your grips, Promise. Again this thing is taking forever and no one is more frusterated than I.

Will talk to each one of you personnally. Thanks again for your support and more than ever your patience.

Pat

Hey Guys, Dragon is right about one thing I am a procrastinator. I also am a father of 3 and work a full time job. The one thing I am not is a Scammer or a Fly by Night.

Anyways, I have been quiet for two reasons. First, my home PC has been in getting repaired at Future Shop for 3 weeks now. Not sure why when it was suppose to be only a few days. Have been trying to respond to as many messages as I can through my work PC, but that is limited. I just noticed today, a heads up from one of you, about the discontent on this thread. Secondly, the rubber I was hoping to use when I said I was done and ready to take orders did not work, really weird smell. As a result I had to design an inner plastic core to add rigidity to the grip since I will need to use the softer rubber. This has taken way longer than I expected.

Everyone who has ordered grips will get them. I will ship them out priority mail and eat the extra costs as I did not expect this to take so long.

Everyone, please accept my apologies and also please PM me directly with any questions. Dragon, I am glad you are such a positive guy. What goes around comes around.

Thanks for the kind words Pat. Essentially I hope the best for you and I keep biting you on the :butwiggle: otherwise I'm thinking these kids won't be getting these till next Christmas at your pace. You may or may not understand my psychology. Seems like it's the only time you tell these guys what you're doing - ;)

Thanks Pat! That's exactly what I needed to hear to get my hopes restored. As a parent of one newborn I can only imagine the chaos of three.

By the way, if these grips turn out to be great, you will definatly get repeat business from me if you develope something new, or if my wife decides to get an MR2.

Ok guys I am back.

Well I am just about ready to give up. Having real problems with the rubber castings, curing problems and bubbles not to mention the internal skeleton.

Not that I want to do this but I have no choice but to cast them in a hard black plastic.

For these I will only charge $15.00 to help recoup my costs. I will refund any extra each of you has paid. If you don't want them please just PM me for a full refund.

These will be shipped out starting today via express mail.

I will eventually get the rubber ones done and any of you that paid for them will still get them in due time once I finally get the casting just right in rubber.

I'll take the hard plastic ones - I've been figuring out how to add a textured grip to Pat's designs anyway so might as well.

Not exactly in defense of Pat, but I think most of us who paid for it have to understand no one pointed a gun at us to order it. That plus it may not have been made obvious that its a product thats not mass manufactured - but made to order so its expected to take a while. Dragon had posted before with concerns whether it would eventually be done. So no one here could say someone else didn't warn us about it.

Everyone that has asked for a refund has recieved it.

Again I do apologize for all the hassle and delay. I have learned a valuable lesson from this. Thank You.

The hard grips are being shipped today and Monday for those that are good with them.

Has anyone actually received a refund? Has anyone received their grips yet?

All of these fair promises are getting to me and I am about ready to post on the bad feedback thread.

Those that have asked for a refund recieved them either the same day or next day of their request.

Most of you that have ordered will be recieving them this week or early next week by mail. If you don't get them by then please let me know immediately.

These are not promises, finally facts. I hope once everyone recieves them that people will post as much positive feedback as they have negative.
