Deer season opened up last Sat here. First week was muzzleloader, and this Sat was opening of gun season. I've shoot and 4 point and a nub buck and my dad got a 5 point. We dont got pics, but here are some from the last couple of seasons.
Here is my 8 pointer from last year right before he goes to get mounted.

Let me try to find some pics of my 7 point I shot the year before that. He got mounted too, but wasnt as big. I've only shot one doe in my whole life, but have shot plenty of nub bucks.:D Crazy buck fever. I also hunt everyday except Sunday. Soon as I get home from school, I go striaght to the woods. That's why I'm not on here before 6 o' clock everyday.

I shoot a 742 30-06 Woodmaster. My dad shoots a 30-06 carbin. We love 30-06's. Sometimes when I get excited about how big of a whole the muzzleloader makes, i'll grab the slug gun. It a Mosseburg 12 gauge with a shotgun scope and it's bolt action, If you want a picture of it, I can get one. :)

I drew back on a small doe the other day but there were too many limbs in the way to shoot. The deer are still rutting in Ohio so I didn't worry too much about her. She was small.

Past seasons for my dad and myself:

My dad's big "moose" of a deer, 9 pointer. He tried to mount it himself and the cape turned orange/yellow after a couple of years. He is having it re-caped.

My 8 pointer.

My little 8 pointer and my dad's 10 pointer.

Last year for us:

I shoot a Winchester .30-30 normally, but that's my little brother's rifle. Sometimes I use my dad's 742 30-06 Woodmaster. I want either a .270 or a .30-06 for my personal gun. I had a shot at a 10-pointer the first time I ever went hunting by myself..and missed. It sucked. I just went and put some corn out today, I'll probably head to the stand in about an hour and a half.

Edit: Rut started Monday here (give or take a few days)..so I'm hoping to start seeing some action..

I hunt with a 7remm mag. a 30-06. a 7x.57(japneses sniper rifle) a .32 and a 30-30. but then we have around like 10 shotguns and 5 .22's. small army ftw.

We have 2 30-06's, 22-250, 223,.... and a couple more rifles I just cant remember. Most of the guns are my dad's, I know maybe 4 guns. We own a butt load of shotguns and only one pistol. It's a Ruger 22 target practice pistol. lol.And my dove hunting gun is my Bennili 12. Really nice gun! The rut came in 4 days ago. Hoping for a really good season!

I'm headed hunting saturday afternoon and sunday morn. The peoples land i'll be hunting on said they've seen a big 14 pt around. I haven't taken a buck yet and hoping to see this monster. So far they've seen lots of deer and already taken a 9 pt and a couple of does. Needless to say i'm excited. My rifle is a Weatherby Vanguard .270 with a wood stock and a Leupold VX-1 3x9x40 scope. Awesome combination in my opinion. Plenty of knock down power for Texas whitetail with not that much recoil.

Other guns include:
Rem. 30-30
Rem. 30-06
Rem. 12 Ga. 870 wingmaster pump (dad's)
Rem. 12 Ga. 870 pump (mine, nothing fancy and works awesome)

I'm trying to convince my parents to get me a Browning A-Bolt .30-06 for Christmas. Sad thing is it will probably cost me as much for the scope as it will for the gun. :(

emf7301
11-19-2006, 04:57 PM
What scope are you considering and why did you choose the Browning A-bolt?

durrell
11-19-2006, 05:06 PM
I have heard good things about Brownings, and my dad has had no problems with his A-5 Browning 12 gauge. I know I want a bolt action. As far as scopes go, I haven't really looked much..possibly a Leupold or something like that.
