I know breakbeam eyes are supposed to be better but since hoppers only use bouncebeam eyes wouldn't a bouncebeam eye be good enough? If a bouncebeam couldn't read a ball in you marker then it wouldn't have made it through a hopper right, so the what is the purpose of breakbeam eyes?

Bouncebeam for a hopper is good because the space limitation where a ball will rest in front of the eye is so small. On the other hand in a marker breach you have more room for the ball to move around or move away from the bouncebeam eye hence distorting the information being fed to the board. All in all it goes about placement of the eye location. Break beam is set lower in the breech so that the chances of a false reading are minimal. With bounce beam it is installed higher so that the beam of light can travel throughout the area of the breech to see the ball. Hence why the benifit of break beam is so high.

equalizer bounce beam is better than most breakbeam systems, although breakbeam looks cooler imo.

My X's ACE does not have break beam but I haven't seen that it needs it anyway. between the ACE and LX it does just fine IMHO. So no drilling holes for me!
