Finally we get a dog! I'm tired of having cats and reptiles.. Since those are long gone, my family decided to go to the shelter and pick up a nice pup. So we got a labrador retriever. I already love this guy and I cant wait for the paper work to clear. Is it ok to rename dogs after getting them from the shelter? It wouldnt like confuse the dog would it? His name is Pierce, and im kinda eh about that name. What would you guys name him?

i think it is the way you say the dogs name, like you are directing your voice towards them that captures their attention. i can call my dog whatever i want as long as i look at him in the eye and speak to him.

not sure on a name though. thats your choice

You would have to call him Peirce * for a while so he would know what his new name was. After a while, when he only responds to the * part of the name, drop the Peirce and only call him the * name. ;)

Cute dog dude, enjoy him! :D

I'm always bad at choosing names for animals. I named our previous cat Mr. Kitty.. that tells you something lol. Just want some suggestions on the common names labs are givin.

My dog's name is Otis. We got him from a shelter too, and we got lazy and just let him keep his name.

Sweet dog, I love black labs. I had one I helped raise to become a dog that would help the disabled. His name was Ace and he grew to be really big. Make sure you take your dog to a vet to get checked out, especially if you get it from a shelter. I respect your decision to get a dog from a shelter. Instead of unloading a couple hundred bucks, you can help take a dog off the streets as well as not pay as much/at all.

lol, SOC would be awesome. But it if people asked me whats the meaning of the name, they would look at me like "wtf mate?" And LOL at blackie, at first I thought brilliant! THen I thought, wait, what if im at the park yelling "Blackie! Fetch Blackie," while, um, a person of color is walking by. That would be interesting. But thanks for all the comments guys, this is my first dog, and the shelter I got it from is a shelter/hospital, so they give the dog all the shots he needs, along with micro chipping him and 6 weeks training for like $40 or something.

Rambo or killer or spike would work. Needs a tuff name.

I have the best idea ever; don't give your kids/pets names, give them numbers. "172125, clean your room!" "85884, no more candy!"

Nice dog. I say name him Spanky.

i've always wanted to name a dog "dog" but that's just me. since so many people call their all-black markers "ninja" style, why not go for "ninja"?

01-14-2006, 12:44 PM
my cousin named his cat "cat"

01-14-2006, 02:03 PM
name him bill.
