View Full Version : chat... or no chat....

good day all. i guess those that have been in the chat are on late at night. and i miss you guys since i pop in early in the morning. :)

question to those that have used the chat... should i keep it? get rid of it? or, keep the idea, but get some other chat program?

right now, i am not sure what i should do. if it is not going to have much use, then i will get rid of it and save my bandwidth.

i also know that a few have found the refresh irratating. i do see the refresh... but it doesn't bother me.

i have found a very nice program that has no refresh AND will work on ANY windows explorer. but the bottom line is, it will cost me money if i want to purchase the program.

just want some input from those that have entered.

I like it....it is nice to have a place to chat that doesn't require AOL or any thing like that, and is aimed at KUSA and our members. The refresh doesn't bother me, but I would welcome looking at other types of software.....
Also, I am sure we could have some kind of fund raiser to help offset the costs if others wanted to keep it....I would help....

keep it. its also usefull if you need something right away or if your doing a sale and would rather chat than pm.

keep it. its also usefull if you need something right away or if your doing a sale and would rather chat than pm.

thats what AIM is for.
i dont really like it all that much, id rather stick to aim, cause its a new window that you have to mess around with, and there are no sounds.

There is a few glitches sometimes, but i like it.

havent been in it... so i dont know if my opinion counts, but i think AIM is perfectly fine, if the chat yo have is free, keep it, if you are spending money, dont keep it.

It seems to be popular at night. We had about 12-15 in there last night when I invited a few people from the Kingman forum on PBN..I like it, but I definitely think a nicer program would be cool. But that's up to you, Ottman, we'll take what we can get..

Edit: the chat is going psycho Otter, it doesn't work in Firefox at all and on IE it keeps asking people to install plugins and "Press Spacebar or Enter to use this control"

Yeah, useful at times, I say keep it and if we decide to upgrade, I won't speak for all of us, but I'll pitch in.

I will also throw some green toward it.

Lets keep it.

I use it in Firefox, the only problem is it wants me to install Quicktime 7, even though I already had it. Everytime it refreshes it tells me to install it.

Get the one without refresh and we are in business. I could throw some green in also.

i like it! Keep the mofo, i'd donate...

10-26-2006, 06:21 PM
I'd probably donate as well..:)

10-26-2006, 10:36 PM

the chat program i am looking at is based on ASP. i will need to spend a little extra per month to enable running of ASP programs. the web server i am on is Unix. but that is not the problem. i can absorb that in the cost per month that it will cost.

the program itself that i am looking at is $150. however, i am open to other programs if one finds them and let's me know.

10-27-2006, 07:17 AM
good news. i think i found a much cheaper one. $40.00. still uses ASP. but that is alright. :) and no refresh. still looking for other alternatives.

Ive stopped using it due to the refresh. It seriously started giving me headaches.

I would be willing to donate towards a refreshless chat.

is it just me, or is it down now?

10-27-2006, 01:30 PM
It is down. Otter is changing to a better service. The other one was ok but the next one will be a lot better for everyone.

10-27-2006, 04:44 PM
www.ottersccustoms.com/chat2 is the original. the new one is not up yet.

10-27-2006, 05:15 PM
any idea on when the new one will be up?

10-27-2006, 05:56 PM
anxious, eh?!

they said (the web host) will take about 12 - 24 hours to make the changes to enable me to run the program. and maybe a few tweaks on my end. so, i do hope by tomorrow evening, it will be up and running.

and yes, you will need to re-register.

10-28-2006, 12:13 PM
otter, your chats up, but i cant figure out how to get into it, like theres no sign up or anything, how do we get into it??

10-28-2006, 12:40 PM
for now, i disabled the sign up.... so the forum will run amok until i find out how to register.... but... it is now up!

and let me know how it is.

10-28-2006, 02:56 PM
I'm on it right now.

10-28-2006, 06:30 PM
