Yep me too here for good.... I am like a roach you cant get rid of me...

However the members that are bringing back old threads to annoy everyone can be gotten rid off ;)

If they are bringing them back just to annoy us, I'm sure all you 'Green Names' can take care of that! I am here either way...too many important things to get bothered about to worry about this issue at all....

well, so far for the non-mods voting and comment, you are confirming what i thought.

I may be the one responsible for this issue, since last week I questioned why some folks respond the way they do to the reviving of old threads. I've not encountered this before, and I couldn't find a forum policy statement specific to this issue.

In any event, if I offended anyone, I apologize.

I also have a couple of suggestions. There's an easy and systematic way to prevent this whole issue: auto-pruning.

If, within this forum, it is considered bad form to post in a thread that has sat idle for a period of time, then perhaps the admins/moderators should consider "expiring" threads after said period of time. I run a php forum myself, and I know you can turn on "auto-pruning", to automatically delete threads that have not been replied to in so many days. So if the admins and moderators are in agreement on this issue, why not auto-pruning on?

I've seen other forums implode because the long-time users don't like the posting habits of noobs that join. I don't want to see that happen here. So whatever the "posting etiquette" is for this forum, could you post it somewhere? If it's already there, and I missed it (and I did look), then again, I apologize.

Mech: you are not the one in question. this is more of an issue of purposely reviving an old post.

there is nothing wrong with reviving a post on occasion. one may do a search and find a thread that fits them more. however, if he wanted to question something different, that is fine.

auto-pruning is fine. until one needs to locate certain things in there search that has been answered.

this poll/question came to be when a banned user bent on logging in different names and willfully bringing back posts for no good reason just to stir up trouble. his claim being that by doing this, it will bring the board down by sending members away packing. so, if (and i am sure he is here) that person wants to do that, he can see by votes how his threat will affect these fine outstanding members.

I voted that it was irritating, but not leave because by purposely doing it, it IS irritating...however, no way would I leave based on that issue alone.

I, too, know the situation and for the members of the forum, I can guarantee the mods and admin here are working to try to make this the best place on the net, regardless of the feelings of one or two disgruntled members.

Eh its irritating... sure... but this forum is better then any of the other paintball forums I have been in. Its not as flaming, its peacefull, and its well designed/taken care of.

I haven't been here long, but I look forward to the information and knowledge I can eventually gain here. My experience from other forums (music-related) is that there will always be some sort of spamming or flaming or irritations from someone or other. You just ignore it (or deal with it if you're a mod) and move on.

That would be preety cool, but I'm not sure that there would be enough post to keep it going. Unless it was just like a continuous chat thats always there where if you say something eventually someone would see it. Unlike on AIM when everyone leaves thats it.

But back on topic, I would not leave, sure it would be annoying, but I'm not leaving I'v been here long enough and even tho I barely play anymore I still haven't left because this is an overall great forum and there's really nothign that would stop me from comeing around.

I don't think anybody who waited through the crash of the mothership would leave because some idiot thinks he can get revenge over the intarwebz, especially Marv's intarwebz. It doesn't really bother me, just adds to useless clutter.

shunut
09-06-2006, 08:12 PM
QTF, useless clutter that once the person is banned can be deleted.

Muddytaco
09-06-2006, 08:23 PM
It doesn't really bother me when somebody replys to a old topic to ask a GOOD question about something in that thread. Such as:

Could you please explain how you did such and such detail., Could you give me more info on this specific thing, etc.

The only time i get pissed about it is when somebody replys with a smartass comment like:
That looks stupid!, Your gay! or your a noob!

A another note I have been hear for about 3-4 years now and i probably will never stop coming here, unless of a ban or the board goes down for good. This is the only board i go to that I actually like:) I remember when the old board went down i checked back daily for a chance to finally see everybody again.:o

qft (without the q) muddytaco

it pisses me off when someone just brings it up to agree or dissagree rather than clarify. i still belive that there is a 3 month rule... cuz when people bring up threads i read their question then i see ive posted and i get confused and think i typed somthing and a mod edited it cuz i dont remeber saying it.

i checked like every 20 min for the first few days then i let it go until someone was like wtf! its up!

You guys suck, I refreshed once every 30 seconds for the first 3 days and once every minute there after.

And Claus we do edit all of your posts just to mess with your fragile little head.
