No sure if this has been posted before, I haven't seen it.

I don't like it, just too ugly. I'm not impressed and I doubt many will give up their 98s for this. :dodgy: <<First time with dodgy! Yay!

Not that I like Tippmann or anything...

Most guys who have their tippmanns don't like the look of a speedball marker. They like the versitility of the A-5 or 98 and the fact that it don't look like it belongs on the speed field.

I don't know yet about this one though...I want to test it out first. It looks like it may have potential.

the one in the tippmann ad i think is their triumph loader, since they were saying how it can fire 15bps if you add it. and the triumph loader does load that fast. taht thing is fuglier than i thought...i thought that huge trigger guard was a foregrip.

To be honest...I like this idea from Tippmann. If they start using this gun for rentals it will introduce the speedball type of gun to the kids and people who are playing for the first time. I know that a couple people I know bought Tippmann 98s because they liked it (although they never tried anything else) whe they played at a local field. If this gun becomes popular as a rental then the people playing with it will be more apt to look into buying a spyder (as I am guessing that spyders will be the next level up from this gun in popular brands.)

This will be a good thing also for the paintball game as a whole. Since it has started to be broadcast on ESPN and creating more hype for the game, people want what they see on TV. They don't see 98s or A-5 and so they want to get what the pros have. This is one way that Tippmann is going to try and cash in with that crowd. If they start with this type of gun they will most likly move up in the same style of gun and avoid the 98's and A-5s.

Just my thoughts....still ugly though but I think this is a good thing...more reason to get another gun as soon as moeny is there.

hmm... theres a review of the triumph loaders in the august apg...

in a nutshell:

theres the sl-200, which feeds up to 15 bps. works like a revy. list $69.95

then the al-200 feeds 10 and has continuous agitation. list $29.95

they both have adjustable oring feednecks, clear spring loaded lids, and hold (really?) 200 paintballs. both work off of a single 9v battery the review complains about the lid being hard to get a grip on to open. the motors on both are fairly quiet, but the continous agitation of the al 200 could still give you away in a quiet setting. the orings on the neck kept the loader secure

geeze. that thing is horrible looking. it has 2 trigger guards, 2 foregrips, and an unlimited supply of suckage. if it looked more like a normal gun, it would be awesome. but they had to make it look like a nailgun, drill, staplegun, gluegun all in one. actually, XP it could work as all of those. nails in one spot, glue in the back, drill in front, staples in the foregrip.
it costs to much to me...i'd rather buy something like a cheap extra or something of that nature.

I'm kinda the black sheep on this one.

I think they are different so that's good and bad.

If Tippman puts eyes in one of them then I'll probably consider one for a back up.

Hate the fact that traditional upgrades won't work (regulator, hammers, valves, ect..)

Like I said....a back up....maybe (but only with eyes).

tigerdave714
09-18-2006, 07:10 PM
Tippmann is doing the same thing Smart Parts did. They're taking the same thing they've made in the past and giving it a low-cost plastic shell so they can drop the price a bit to reach a whole new market. Worked for SP and it will work for Tippy. You just have to realize that we're not the target audience for this marker. Their target is the guy who's been renting a Tippmann for a few months and getting pwned by the tourney players at his local field. He will buy it because he recognizes the name but also because it looks like it fits the part for speedball without breaking his budget. Might not be cool to us, but I'll bet you it works in their favor in the long run.

As far as Tippmann being "ground breaking" I think they've already done that with the C3. An innovative new design and a longer-lasting propellant source? Can all the backyard ballers say "Yes please"? Now all they have to do is make it work in a 15bps semi-auto and they'll be in high cotton. (and because they released it first in a pump gun, Smart Parts and the other patent vultures won't claim the idea as theirs).

Anyway... while we're talking about "new" Tippmann markers, has anyone seen the 20th Anniversary 98Custom? Limited edition, gloss finish, gold plated hardware and plumbing. Asking price is kinda silly ($249 for a 98Custom?!) but for a Tippmann fan I guess this would be a collector's item.

Hob Hayward
09-18-2006, 07:43 PM
Its the C-3 dave.

I saw the gold plated 98C, basically just a waste of money.

The one problem I see with these plastic bodies tippies is that tippies by the nature of them get the crap beaten out of them, you can't dod that when the body is plastic.

Maybe it's just me but for the same reason as Tiger Dave's. I think they won't sell. Anyone who has played before will look around and go I see lots of Tippy's but not this model. Besides that people who play their first time are more likely to look around and get advice for friends. What the Ion had going for it was it's older brother the shocker and high end technology. What Tippman has going for it is the same old thing + plastic! The Ion had the technology advantage. The Tippy.......notta

William Shatner(yes, the Kirk dood and ya, he played paintball) issued a gold plated Spyder commemorative around 4 years ago on these very KUSA forums -

Far as that Tippy BBQ burner goes, I've never seen anyone use one on the fields I play on as of yet. I tried one at the 2004 World Cup. Innovative, yes......bulky, heavy and stinks when you shoot it, most definitely. I'm thinking more of Tippy's innovative Edsel -

I think most respectable ballers wouldn't be caught dead toting one of these new markers. Even the hard core Tippy people are ashamed of it lol -

does the c3 use natural gas...
on a side note its probibly a good thing they didnt name it c4....

tigerdave714
09-19-2006, 09:47 AM
The C3 uses propane. If you play at a field that lacks pump players in general, you probably wont see them out on the field much. I've seen a handful in my travels through pump-heavy areas.

Far as Gold Platedness (and Shatner) goes... I've seen the signature series gold plated Illusions he had made especially for ShatnerBall (http://www.actionmarkerssales.peachhost.com/ct_iam-1-wspump.JPG).
I've never seen the gold plated Spyder though. The 20th anniversary Tippy didn't go that far. Just plated the screws, nuts, bolts, and the stainless plumbing.

I see everyone's point that these hideous new tippy's probably won't do "well" by our standards. I'm not expecting them to sell millions, but considering their investment (very little R&D because its basically the same marker they've been making, and very little in parts/production because of the cheap material used) I wouldnt be surprised if they make some money on it.

Compared to the VS, I would say that Kingman/Spyder is definitely headed in the right direction to make more money, but Tippmann's idea isn't all that bad.
