I put $20 in my car sunday at $3.09 a gallon, but on Friday of last week it was $3.19. Im leaving to town now so we'll see if this Alaska stuff has a big effect or not.

From what the news said last night, this Alaska Pipeline break shouldn't affect us in AZ. I'll beleive it when I see it. Gas companies look for any excuse to raise the price of gas. Currently you can get the cheap stuff for $2.85 a gallon. I put the middle grade in my car because it seems to work the best and the cheapest I've found it is for $2.96.

Here is a "Cheap Gas Locator": http://autos.msn.com/everyday/gasstations.aspx?zip=&src=Netx

All you have to do is enter your zip code and checkout the prices of all the gas stations around you.

I got a call yesterday from someone telling me to "fill your car now because gas is about to be higher than it's ever been," so I rush out and put 52.00 in my car (I was on the red line and about poo'd my pants when I saw that total - good lord!) Gas was 2.99 - highest it's been in a year.

So I'm coming home last night and pass the gas station I filled up at in the morning and gas had DROPPED 4 cents a gallon - 2.95. I was pissed, but then, I was pissed all day yesterday about everything.....just a perfect ending to a WONDERFUL day.

I paid $2.75 at Sam's Club the other day. I live in Greenville County, SC, which is one of the cheapest places in the country for gasoline. Dunno why, but I'm not complaining.

Its 3.01 at Sams club up in Rochester, NY. But you can also find some Sunoco's that have it for 3.03 around here too. Highest I have seen it is 3.21...

I love the conspirasy*sp*. There is no way that they can have that much difference in the prices if there isnt. Everyone in the US should boycot a specific gas company and because of that they would have to lower their gas prices to get buisness, then when the other companies see them making all the money and getting all the customers, they lower theirs too. That and we need to go after the government and tell them to go suck their fat mothers t**. :dodgy: :(

There is no way that it should cost us this much. Considering we have alot of oil right here in the US. Just us lazy americans dont want to go drilling for it when we can pay overseas people to do it for us. Its incredible... the huge oil owners over there have castles that are miles long with all this gold covering them and everything else because of the profit they have made on our lazy, sorry asses.

Whats even more incredible is how they can finger us in every way, they could raise the prices of gas just for the hell of it and give some excuse, but we would still pay it. I am sure they are over there right now laughing at our stupidity on how we are getting the **** ****ed out of us through their oil market.

$3.27 was the cheapest place i seen on that thing Shunut posted.

vikingshadow
08-08-2006, 07:43 AM
It's not the lack of oil that's driving the prices. We have a LOT of oil in reserves in our country, plus all that hasn't been drilled yet. Although the cost is somewhat based on what we're getting it from the OPAC nations, the main cost is coming from the refining overhead.

Because of organizations like Greenpeace, the government has been forced to severly limit the number of oil refineries we have, so that when something goes wrong with one, the others have to take up the slack. I saw a breakdown of the cost of refining said oil, and really, it costs quite a bit.

I used to blame the quickstops and gas stations themselves, because you can't tell me that a station that just got a shipment of gas and has figured cost at 2.80 per gallon yesterday, all of a sudden HAS to charge 3.00 today. They still have the same damn gas in their storage tank that they bought from the company yesterday! However, I'm slowly starting to see that they really only do make about 5-6 cents per gallon, which is still quite a bit, but they are in it for the profit, after all. When you consider other companies gouging, it's not that bad! For example - a prominant paint company raises the cost of their paint almost 20-25.00 per gallon above what it cost to get it from the factory....

Anyone here besides vike and me old enough to remember how, 30 years ago, many so-called "experts" predicted that we would have run out of oil by now?

This had lead some open-minded scientists who question whether oil is really "fossil-based" at all, or rather the result of some other type of geologic activity.

But I digress...

I remember that - in fact, that was right after the BIG fuel crisis back in the 70's (I was really a young kid then, but remember my dad and mom talking about it). They started researching Ethanol and all that - we had a pump at a quickstop in town that actually sold it, but no one used it...

You remember how much gas was in 1980?

Drove by a gas station on my way into the office this morning and I saw $2.83. They say the oil line that broke in Alaska is going to take like 4 months to fix, but they say it will not affect gas prices. I say shens right now. Gas companies are so money hungery that they will take advantage of anything. Oh, that little girl tripped over a crack in the sidewalk, better up gas prices. Gas is at the highest price ever and gas companies are making more money than ever. I'm not talking about what they are taking in I'm talking about profit, they are making more money than ever. I know we've had many discussions about this on here and it still makes me sick.

Back when I started driving gas was only $1-1.50 a gallon. Even when I bought my current car 5 years ago it only took $20-25 to fill it up, and that was with premium. Now with the middle grade it cost me $45.

Wow, someone OLDER THAN ME!!! I was just a Freshman in high school then, LOL! I remember when I started driving, a 125 Yamaha dirt bike at 14 years old (so long as they were street legal, we could drive them on highways at 14 yrs,) I was paying about 1.15 or less a gallon. You could put 2 dollars of gas in and drive almost two weeks on it! When I got my permit for a car, I was paying about 1.20 a gallon (1982-83). Those were the days!

Oh, yeah! We were more into Wayman Tisdale at OU than pro basketball at that time - although I was running a clandestine pro football pool at my school during those years...

6-7 years ago my dads geo metro cost $10 to get a full tank now its like $35, and my moms trailblazer cost like $45-$50 to get 3/4 full. Damn, I could go paintballing more often if gas cost less.
