I have a filter in my e-mails that weeds most all of them out but I just don't get the spammers thing. Does anybody ever open up spam mail? -

What about the PayPal and Ebay scammers I've been hearing about? These asshats send you an e-mail to an account that prolly isn't even related to Ebay or PayPal, then tell you your account has been frozen. Then ask you for the same information that the place already has Well duh, if you're not bright enough to know the place already has the info they're asking for or go to one of those sites and see if in fact the account has been frozen or whatever in the first place, I think you don't deserve to have money in the first place lol -

Back to the spammers.....why in the world would someone think that anyone would even consider opening these things and buying their products? If anything, most people wouldn't buy their products just in spite of their cyber fly activity. Hit them with the delete button the same you would a fly that you just whacked for buzzing around your head lol. I'd like to sick Druid on them with a cattle prod. I mean right up teh ol dirt road. What a wonderous day that would be if that was possible. Has anyone ever bought a thing from these type of people let alone open these things? What teh hell's the sense of sending stuff that 99.999% of people will delete in the first place? Don't people have anything better to do with their time? Why am I asking all of these questions? Hell if I know?????????? -

I get occaisional spam in my gmail inbox, but thats rarely. Ther're all for like viagra or lately in my spam box I've been getting these really werid ones, like today theres one from "Marian Mcdaniel" with the subject line "snide cabinet-".

WTH is that? I'm going to open an email from some random person that from the looks of it is talking about a snide cabinet...

252 unread emails in my box from the past month, I read all of my mail that is from people I know, the rest is spam. I am kind of seeing how much I can accumulate in a year.

Funny thing is spam is generally associated with porn or somthing of the sort, 85% of all of the spam messages I have are from fake banks and fake ebay/ msn scams, along with paypal scams.. It is crazy.

yea, i used to get like 10 a day to my personal email. I just keep deleting them and unsubscribing from the ones that give you that option. now, i'm down to no more than 1 or 2 a day. It was real pain before but just keep putting in the effort to try and stop them and hopefully they will go down.

I dont have time to sit there and unsubscribe. I just use my junk mail filter and it automatically moves them to the junk folder. If I knew it wouldn't catch e-mails I might need, I'd get it to automatically delete them..but sometimes it filters good emails.

Spammers are no different than the late night infomercials. They have them on and 10000000's of people see them, but only 1000 order the junky product.

Spam works the same way. They send it to 100000000's of people, knowing that a portion of them will actually hit the "button" or send them the info they are asking for...

Here are some of my tips I give my users about SPAM in case you care to read it.:

How can you avoid receiving SPAM?

Do not provide your e-mail address to anyone except for trusted business clients and contacts.
Do not provide your e-mail address to on-line services such as an electronic greeting card site. Some of these services do nothing except collect e-mail addresses. If a site requires that you provide an address, create an account specifically for these things (via hotmail, yahoo, etc.).
Avoid using your e-mail address on Usenet (newsgroups) posts. Usenet is a Spammer’s e-mail-address-collection paradise! If you must post on these newsgroups, be sure to mask your address. (ex MyName AT domain DOT com instead of MyName@domain.com
Do not ever ”reply” to an e-mail from a Spammer. Even though the SPAM e-mail contains instructions on how to be removed (usually something you can click to Unsubscribe), doing this will only add your e-mail address to a very extensive list of valid e-mail addresses.
Spammers are able to sell these lists for large amounts of money because the e-mail addresses they contain are valid. Instead you can send a copy of it to the FTC at SPAM@UCE.GOV and let the Government deal with the Spammer.

PLEASE NOTE: Many e-mails come from legitimate vendors, services, and advertisers because you have signed up for their services or information from their organization using your e-mail address. If you wish to be removed from their mailing lists, it is appropriate to follow the “unsubscribe” instructions you receive from them. Legitimate vendors, services, and advertisers will never try to hide their identity and should always honor your request to unsubscribe from their e-mail services.

If you want more info please let me know....

And Dragon, you are the Man, just BAN them :D

Just like it was said before, get a free yahoo/msn/whatever e-mail address to hand out to everyone and everything that requires an e-mail address. Then keep your personal account seperate. I have been doing that for 8 years now and I have had great luck. It is very simple and easy to do.

I got a porn spam on my work email once. I laughed because it got through the school's filter. Should have said something, because the next day, we had a kid looking at porn on the internet...something was wrong with the filter, I guess.
