Welp, it started today and honestly I forgot all about it. But it should be a great cup this year and I am going to try to follow it as closely as possible. Who else is looking forward to this and what are your feelings on it? I really think the US has a good chance to go quite a ways in the tourny which is something unheard of. Most of the world used to look forward to playing the US, but now they are one of the top contenders, so it should be a fun time watching them play.

the US isn't going anywhere, they also do good in qualifying and then they suck up the place when it comes down to it.

^^^^good one....:dodgy:

I think this will be a great cup! I agree with Hoppy; I believe we have a chance to go very far, perhaps even the final....but the main contenders this year will be the usual: Germany, Brazil, England...etc.

The Germany Vs Costa Rica game was quite the opener, lot's of excitement...I was rooting for Costa Rica, and it looked like they would perhaps get a tie, but Frinz's (sp) lucky shot made it impossible. They played with heart. I usualy root for the underdog, and plus I didn't like what Germany did to our team last year....

Didn't watch the Ecuador Vs Poland game, but this is a pretty big accomplishment for Ecuador....I think it's the first time they've done so well in the first game.

Monday I suppose I should root for the Czechs, being that I'm half Czech, but I'm going to go with my real national team, the US...and I'm guessing the US will not crack under the strain this year....they will go far. I believe in them this year.

Edit: I'm getting up in exactly five hours to watch the England Vs Paraguay game....such is my fate....:D

No one ever scores in soccer..... Humm that sound familure.

Nahh not a big foreign football fan... But i guess it all cool... i was reading some articals saying that these people from other coutries get too into this torney. They say it get more violent every year...

Either way soccer isnt a huge sport in america yet (Not like football, or baseball,), but it is still pretty large and growing. I dont think we will win thus if we dont win what is the use in watching....

ya i had it in my sig after i quoted tibs saying something like he hopes hell score in soccer tonight.

everything<paintball

omfg paradox, cuz paintball = everything so how can that previous statement be true, yes i have had caffeine.

theres a barbedwire fence, a pit of water (sometimes with gators) and gaurds with mace blocking fans from the field, no alchol(sp, its early) is served, why do people still go over the fence?

In the germany v. costa rica game, that one german goal that guy took from 25 yards out was a beauty. I think it was germany's 3rd goal. He just ripped the frickin ball and the keeper had no chance.

Even if we do lost to Czec it dosnt matter. Every team in their group has to play one another. And the two teams with the highest points move on. So even if we lose to Czec we can still stomp on the other three and move on.

i was having fun watching the Mexico Iran game today. the commentators were talking about players nicknames, and one guy is called "The Carpet" because he floats through the defenders like a magical carpet in mythalogical times. it gave me a good laugh.

anyway, Mexico's third goal was sweet

I hardly know anything about soccer, even having two kids play it doesn't help me much, but I watched a good show on one of the sports channels about how racism is alive and strong in the ranks of the World Soccer whatsamahoozits....How even fans of a team will call their own black players monkeys and throw bananas on the field - and even worse, beating them physically! It was pretty disturbing to watch actually.

I hope that USA wins - as any good American would do, but I just can't follow it very well.

BBBLLLAAAHHH, AAARRRGGG, in the name of all things holy we couldn't get a single attack going in the first 70 min. of the game! Up the middle, up the middle, up the middle, every single friggin time and what do the czech do? They stuff it down our throats. Work the ball up the friggin sides and you produce scoring opportunities like we did in the last 10 min. US team really needs to change their tactics for the next game because man that totally suxed ass!

england is crap with out rooney, luckly he is offically back now. Rooney comes in to the game early to middle of the second half and england scores two, guess he really is that much of a playmaker.

I really hope frace can get something going this year, Thierry is gonna have to start showing up though. Im happy to see zidane back in a france uniform, couldnet have his last showing be 2002.

But i really think everyone is playing for second place now, brasil just has to much talent on one team not to win. Yes i know talent doesnt always amont to a win( member those lakers?) but c'mon this is brasil. My pick is Brasil 2-1 in the final over france.

ouch 3-0 against czech republic, well i guess this really is czechs golden generation and not the us's. I think we should have focused more on the soccer then are "dont tred on us" and "joga bonita" slogans. oh well there is always south africa 2010.

I agree, but they tend to choke in the Cup games....I would like to see them succeed.

England game was good, my two fav players on the team scored goals. Gerrard's shot was pretty nice.

Ecuador is doing suprisingly good, and the goals they had today were sweet.

I pick Portugal for #1 upset this year.

They just called US goal offsides, even though the offsides player did not touch the ball.

It's a fair call though, if you think about it, because McBride was shielding the keeper.

I went crazy when they scored.....and then punched a wall when they called it offsides.

emf7301
06-17-2006, 12:36 PM
i just got home, were both those red cards earned or were they bull****? And yes, mcbride was offsides because he was blocking the keeper, in essence including him in the play.

Edit: Keller is having a hell of a game. I love having my new wireless laptop so i can type and watch at the same time. :D

marvin-martian

Nader
06-17-2006, 12:38 PM
De Rosa for Italy, and Maestroni and Pope for USA.

And a yellow for both Totti and Zambroni.

This ref is card happy for sure.

It's still one-one and I'm praying and hoping for another goal for the US.

The first red was bull, but the second red was just a second yellow card....it was questionable whether or not it should have been another yellow. Both of Pope's yellows were questionable.

Edit: It ends in a tie.....lame. Now all we have to do is beat Ghana...

well, a tie is better than a loss.:yay: Plus, the US still has a chance if italy beats czech and we beat ghana. i don't know about that .

Just saw highlights. Mastroeni's card wasn't a red in my opinion but reasonably a yellow. Pope's second card was questionable also.

Edit: US can also get through if italy and czech tie, while the us beats ghana by at least 4 goals. But i would rather have italy beat the czech

Ok, here we go. Top 2 teams in each group move on. The top two are decided by points. If two teams have the same number of points, they refer to the goal differential to see who goes. Points scheme is 3 for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for loss.

The placement of teams is decided in this order:
most points
goal differential
most goals scored
draw lots for it if all above are the same

US group looks like this as of now:
italy - 4 pts & +2 GD & 3 GS(goals scored)
Czech - 3 pts & +1 GD & 3 GS
Ghana - 3 pts & 0 GD & 2 GS
US - 1 pt & -3 GD & 1 GS
There are only two ways the US can advance.
Italy beats czech, US beats ghana.
Italy and czech tie with no more than 1 goal for czech, US beats ghana by 4 or more goals.
Simply put. Our best chance is that italy wins and we beat ghana.

Ukraine got a GIFT! They never should have won that game. They were being out played by Tunisia and they were down a man. Plus in about the 60th minute Tunisia had a free kick just outside the box, the player bent the ball up and over the wall, but it was deflected by the wall by an ARM!!! Right in front of the ref, nothing. No call.. nothing. Then about 10 mins later, Tunisia got a touch foul called in their box to give the Ukraine a PK and they scored.. game ended 1-0. I do not like the reffing this cup.

along with everyone else. Fifa has tried to crack down on all the shirt tuggin and stuff with telling refs to go strait to yellow without a warning. Listening to the game the annoncers say this alot.

man, i saw the first goal and was like "germany's gone... the teams are too closely matched." then after the PKs, i ran into my room and hung my german flag out the window! all the germans driving up and down the road honking at each other honked every time they drove past my window.

as for the next game, i predict england wins against portugal, and then england beats germany 2-0.

italy v. germany

france v. portugal

those are my predictions, but i havent really watched italy play

it'd be cool if germany won WC though, because my grandpa's been around to see the other 3. and yesterday i found out that my uncle had the option of giving up his apprenticeship to play german league soccer when he was 16, but he turned it down

zidane did more then any other player in the world cup he brough france to the finals, scored the goal to put france ahead, and he was at the head of most of the strikes during the game. so what if he headbutted someone id like to c u run around with an even head after playing 90 min of soccer in the biggest game that takes place every 4 years not to mention its probibly ur last world cup game in ur life and some ass hole is talking **** to u all game. oh ya he was also playing with a hurt arm. thats alot.

I definately thought the arm injury was faked to get some rest, but do you blame him. On the next Italian possession he was defending someone and was freely moving his arm around. I think the headbutt was low, and cost his team, but if he was provokes I can't say I wouldn't of done similar.

The reason I said what I said was because I've been in a similar situation in Lacrosse. I had a guy talking smack the entire game and I took a cheap shot at him when I got tired of hearing it. Difference is we didn't have a big screen showing a replay of it for the refs to see, so I never got penalized. I'm not justifying what he or I did, but I can't say I wouldn't of done it.

Not that im stickin up for a cheap ass hit like zidane did but they shouldent have shown that on the big screen. It gives a ref a instant reply which is total crap. I think he deserved the red but it makes me wonder what the defender had said before he got the crap headed out of him.

well, loved the game. the Italians dragged it out... barely. it was an alright game. not the best. did not like Zidone head butting the Italian player. even if there was an exchange of words. must have been something really bad. they were both smiling... then all of a sudden, he turns and *bam*. there was so much good sportsmanship with the other players.

anyway, Italians won. the team i was for. wife was for France.

That Italian guy went flying...It was nuts. I didn't get to watch the game at first...I had to work. But when i watched my recording, it was worth it. I thought the Germany v. Poland game was a lot better. People were very critical about the fact that I likes Schweinsteiger. "He hasn't scored a goal...How can you like him" He almost had a hat trick that game, if it hadn't been for that Portugese own goaler.

He supposly stomped on the players leg and then pushed a player(c.ronaldo?)to get his red. That headbutt was savage though. I dont see how he could have go to upset to do something like that. A shove would have worked so much better for him for it would have only yielded him a yellow and would have had the same effect(knocking him down)
