MR1 Firing Way Too Hot

So I took my MR1 to a field and had it chronoed. By adjusting the velocity screw on the back, the slowest I could get it was 319 fps, so they wouldn't let me use it. I tried snipping a little off the spring, but that cut my fps all the way down to 160, which doesn't seem right at all cuz I only snipped one ring off the spring.

What am I doing wrong?

Am I reassembling the marker incorrectly? Was snipping the spring the WRONG thing to do? Do I have a defective marker?

Any help is welcome. I'm going to buy a spring kit from my local retailer tonight. Anything else I should be looking at?

I am, indeed, shooting CO2, but I've never had this problem in the past with other markers.

Buy a 32* spring kit.

Agree with Hob. A spring kit would have fixed your problem.

I bought a Shocktech spring kit today.

Yea I did the same thing except I was firing like 416 and then I snipped like 4 coils off the spring and it worked out fine at 280.:D

I tried that. I snipped 2 rungs off the spring and it went down to 160 fps!

The spring kit did the trick. I'm down at 280, perfectly.

When I compared the stock spring to the spings in the kit, the stock spring was much longer.
