ive always found geeks to be helpful and nerds to be annoying. my impression is that geeks use fond knowlege of a single topic to help others, nerds use random knowlege of worthless stuff to show off, or be better than someone. conversation with a geek:

you: "my computer broke could you fix it?"
geek: "sure"

same situation, this time with a nerd.

you: "my computer broke could you fix it?"
nerd: "maybe if you would grow some brains and not fry the _(insert word you don't know here)_ then i wouldn't have to help you with your inferiority"

thats my impression of the two words and their meanings. generally i find nerd bad geek... uh... good maybe sometimes. i know it swaps around so its difficult, my friend thinks the exact different. we argue about it after arguing how many episodes of star trek there are... 78 or 72 (south park refernce, sorry)
