TAKEN FROM A NZ PAINTBALL SITE

Fellow Paintballers! There is a crook in NZ who is scamming kids from their paintball equipment, please help us to end this and get the person responsible behind bars

My name is James (smiley) Luth, I run a store here in the states and have recently also been a victim of internet fraud by someone using the pbnation name "waylander382" originating from your country! I know of 4 others who i have spoken to personally abou this matter, and we are currently speaking to SGT H Fordray at Papakura Stn. If anyone has information about:

Pleas help SGT H Fordray at Papakura Stn by giving him a phone call. You can keep it anonymous if you wish. just help to get these guns back to there rightful owners.


here is the scam

1. waylander acquires or steals credit card information to conduct the paypal transaction.
2. He makes a contact with someone who is willing to ship overseas, and is quite cordial
3. He requests usps for shipping (they do not offer delivery confirmation for international packages)
4. The paypal transaction is completed, and the marker is shipped via usps or another non fedex or ups shipper
5. The marker makes it to NZ and into the hands of waylander.
6. a couple days goes by, and waylander initiates the "chargeback" process through paypal, stating that he never received shipment.
7. paypal's policy is to side with the buyer, and a chargeback penalty is issued to the victim.
8. the victim attempts to present paypal with a valid signature and delivery conformation, unfortunately usps or global mail deliveries do not do this, only fedex and ups which are significantly more expensive.
9. paypal deny's the victims request citing their chargeback policy, and the victims inability to provide proof the package has arrived at its destination, date, time, and signature.
10. waylander now has a free gun.

this is a popular scam, and to avoid this, alway ship with a shipper that uses more that signature confirmation, where there is a barcode on the package that is scanned when it has arrived at its final destination.

So basicaly if you ship overseas, require people to use fedex or ups.

yeah even though fedex and ups are more exesive it is a much safer way to buy/sell stuff.

yeah even though fedex and ups are more exesive it is a much safer way to buy/sell stuff. false. using usps is using the federal mail service. ups and fedex are simply private parcel services they cannot file mail fraud against someone doing a scam like this. mail fraud is the act of using the united states postal service for scamming people (ie sending fake letters, stealing trades like this, etc) so basically this guy has commited a federal crime which is punishable to a much greater extent than simple fraud that he would be charged with for fedex or ups. i strongly recomend using usps as a deterant in the united states to possible mail frauders. i say DONT EVER ship over-seas, as the seller it is incomvientent anyway.

Hey good news...

It seems that this matter has been resolved. The nz paintball community and the NZ police have found the guy and are in the process of getting the guns back to their rightful owner.

What is the lesson here???
1) Dont sell stuff overseas, and if you do pay extra money so you know if it has arrived at the destination.
or
2) That the US Police dont care about paintball guns and say they cant do anything about it, and its not till nz police get on to it that the problem is fixed.

Bungeye, I know Smiley (Jim) very well. He told me a couple of days ago that these bastards had been caught. Other US Government Agencies were getting involved. Apparently they take this very seriously. He got these guys on internet fraud. The positives with shipping UPS/FEDEX are the fact that you can ship with signature required which proves that the product was delivered. Like Smiley said USPS doesn't offer that.

I told him someone had posted his thread on the spyder forum, he wanted to tell you thanks for spreading the word.
