If you do not want to go e-frame, then at the least you will need a new barrel and i would also recommend a new feedneck. If you have the money to spend also get a HPA tank instead of C02.
If you are looking for more upgrade tips go to the PB Bible HERE (http://www.ottersccustoms.com/index.html)
If you want brand advise just ask.

hpa tank what does it change ?

HPA is more constant that C02. It is regulated off of the tank so it will always be the same PSI. Also weather does not effect HPA as it does C02.

"compete with an A5".....think about it...cyclone feed vs. Mech frame. The only thing you can do is outsmart the person with the A5 because simply...the 'firepower' isn't there. E-frame it or outsmart your opponant(s)...it's that simple

Hmmm. I'd say go with HPA and a new barrel and a agitated hopper. The only thing I can see from a A-5 is that the cyclone feed ensures that a ball will always get into the gun whereas you know on our guns how we have to shake it sometimes to get the flow started again. But your Xtra stock should be already competitive with a 98 Custom that's stock. A little better maybe due to a longer barrel.

Man. This is a slow forum then. It was still pretty near the top when I posted.

Yeah, the Xtra forum, and a few others, don't see a lot of action since most people don't get these guns anymore, or already know all about them.
However, I think the A5's good qualities over the Xtra are negated by the fact that it's much more expensive, heavy and is a major gas hog. My friend only got 400 shots off a 20 oz Co2 "back in the day." With the Xtra, you can put a new barrel on it and be good to go. For a bit more, you can put an electric frame and a motorized loader and totally go nuts with it. HPA is another option as well.
