View Full Version : trigger trouble

I have an older Spyder Java that I got as a kit a couple years ago. The issue I am having I believe is occuring in the trigger mechanism. My bolt will not stay cocked. If I were to manually pull the bolt back and turn the gun over, it will sometimes catch. When I took the trigger apart I noted that there was a "boat" shaped piece that appears would move up and hold the bolt back. there is a small hole that I would assume some sort of spring or something would attach, but I did not see one. could this have been lost? How exactly does that trigger mechanism work? Is it a simple fix? Any help would be appreciated.

First of all, Welcome to the forum!

There is a piece that is called the sear, that is the piece that catches the hammer/striker when the gun is cocked. It is possible for this piece to get rounded or perhaps the hammer/striker has been damaged/rounded.

As for the issue with a spring possibly being lost, I'm not sure. I'm out of town right now and cannot look at one of mine. If you push down on the sear and it pops back up, I would say everything is there, but without looking at one of mine, I'm not 100% sure. I get home tomorrow night and if someone else has not helped and solved your issue, I will be sure to break out one of my frames and try to help you out.

Thanks so much for the video. This explains exactly what happened. I am missing that spring on the sear and therefore it is not allowing the back of the sear to pop up and catch the bolt. I am going to try and fix this over the weekend and I'll let you know how I make out.
